A metal object floating on the Desna River was identified as a pontoon bridge used by the Russian side to cross the river (Video: Ukrainian Border Guard).
A Facebook post by the Ukrainian Border Guard said they noticed and followed the “suspicious object” until it stopped near the Ukrainian side of the river.
The object was identified as a pontoon bridge used by the Russians to cross the river. Bomb disposal experts confirmed that the metal object was not dangerous.
A pontoon or floating bridge consists of pontoon panels that are permanently connected together. The number of panels and their buoyancy will determine the distance and maximum load of the bridge.
Both sides in the Ukraine war used pontoon bridges to try to cross the river.
