A bridge between the government and the people.

Visiting Tan Son district in mid-November, we went to Binh area, My Thuan commune, Tan Son district to learn about a man who is highly respected by the local people: Mr. Phung Van Nhuong, a Muong ethnic minority, born in 1952, residing in Binh area, My Thuan commune.

Mr. Nhuong is a respected figure in Binh area, and he actively campaigned for the construction of a paved road that runs through the entire residential area. To achieve this, Mr. Nhuong mobilized residents to donate land, contribute labor, and provide funding for construction, helping to change the appearance of My Thuan commune.

Previously, during his nearly 10 years as Chairman of My Thuan Commune, Mr. Phung Van Nhuong successfully fulfilled his duties in mobilizing and disseminating the policies and guidelines of the Party and the State, helping people raise their awareness, and actively participating in social and community movements, contributing to the socio -economic development of the locality.

After retiring, Mr. Nhuong served as Chairman of the Veterans Association of My Thuan commune for 15 years. With his efforts and dedication throughout his career, and the trust of the government and the people, he was elected a respected figure in 2016. In this role, he became a bridge helping people better understand the policies and laws of the State, and actively participated in community building movements.

According to local residents, many years ago, the road leading to the Binh community center was already difficult to navigate on sunny days, and even more challenging on rainy days due to its narrow and slippery surface. In 2016, when the commune initiated a rural road construction project, Mr. Nhuong actively mobilized his relatives and neighbors to support the paving of the 4km road to the community center with concrete, aiming to better serve community activities. The road was put into use at the end of 2023.

In 2019, Mr. Nhuong mobilized the people to donate land for site clearance to build a 3km inter-communal road running through the residential area. A year later, he continued to mobilize the people to donate land for site clearance to build an 800m inter-communal road. Every year, he also mobilizes the people to contribute labor and money to build and repair concrete roads in the area, and to purchase additional equipment and cultural facilities for the area.

Mr. Nhuong shared: “Following the principle of prioritizing transportation infrastructure, I mobilized my relatives and neighbors to donate land for road construction. Initially, some households didn't fully understand the benefits of donating land for the road. After working with the commune government and the residential area to persuade and explain the situation to the people, 100% of the residents in the commune agreed and supported the initiative.”

The 4km-long concrete road leading to the cultural center in Binh area, My Thuan commune, was put into use at the end of 2023.

The inter-village roads are wide, clean, and beautiful, bringing joy and excitement to the local people. Infrastructure and economic conditions in Binh area are gradually developing, contributing to the socio-economic development of the locality. This transformation has helped many families accumulate more for the future.

Mr. Phung Van Nhuong also focused on building a cultural life and fostering community solidarity. On his old motorbike, Mr. Nhuong diligently went to every alley, knocking on every door, dedicating much effort to mobilizing the people to implement the policies and guidelines of the Party and the State. At the same time, he promoted a cultured lifestyle, family planning, and the building of cultured families and learning lineages.

“Binh area has consistently achieved the title of “Culturally Advanced Residential Area” for many years. The area is free from social vices, child marriage has decreased, consanguineous marriages have not occurred, and cumbersome rituals in funerals, weddings, and festivals have been eliminated… contributing to building a strong, united, and developing community,” Mr. Nhuong happily stated.

Mr. Phung Van Nhuong serves as a bridge, helping local people better understand the State's policies and laws, and actively participate in community building movements.

Regarding the role of respected figure Phung Van Nhuong among ethnic minority communities, Comrade Ha Van Thuyn - Vice Chairman of My Thuan commune, stated: “The Binh area currently has 208 households, with 90% of the population being Muong ethnic people. He is an exemplary individual, trusted and loved by the people. Mr. Phung Van Nhuong's active contributions have been and continue to be important to the cause of national unity, promoting the people's sense of self-reliance, and gradually improving the material and spiritual lives of ethnic minority people in the commune.”

Through his tireless contributions over the past decade, Mr. Phung Van Nhuong has affirmed his role and prestige in the community of Binh area, My Thuan commune. His successes are not only the result of personal effort but also a testament to the strength of unity and cooperation within the community.

Mr. Nhuong serves as a "bridge" connecting the Party's will with the people's aspirations, contributing to the effective implementation of Sub-project 1 under Project 10 of the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development of Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas giai đoạn 2021-2030 (National Target Program 1719).
