The construction of a pedestrian bridge across the Saigon River, a new architectural symbol of Ho Chi Minh City, is proposed by the sponsor to start on April 26.
Nutifood Nutrition Food Joint Stock Company (sponsor) has just sent a document asking for opinions to the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, the City People's Committee and the Department of Transport on registering the groundbreaking date for the pedestrian bridge across the Saigon River.
The sponsor said that in the past time, they have actively completed necessary procedures such as approving the feasibility study report, completing the design documents for construction drawings, applying for a construction permit and organizing the selection of contractors to build the pedestrian bridge across the Saigon River.
"All of these preparations are to ensure the groundbreaking of the pedestrian bridge on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of national reunification on April 30, 2025, in accordance with the direction of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee and the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City. Therefore, Nutifood would like to register to organize the groundbreaking ceremony for the project on April 26," the document stated.
In October 2024, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee agreed to add the project to build a pedestrian bridge across the Saigon River to the list of key projects of the city; with a total estimated funding of about 1,000 billion VND.
The bridge is 500m long, starting from Bach Dang wharf park (District 1), the starting point on the Thu Duc City side at the riverside park in Thu Thiem New Urban Area.
The pedestrian bridge is designed in the shape of a water coconut leaf, a very typical leaf of the Southern region. Ho Chi Minh City considers this a unique and impressive architectural style, expected to attract people and tourists to the city.
