On the morning of April 18, the Southern Women's Museum held a meeting and opened the thematic exhibition "40-year journey - Stories from artifacts " to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Southern Women's Museum (April 29, 1985 - April 29, 2025).
This is also an activity to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day.
40 years of the Southern Women's Museum
Ms. Pham Thi Dieu - Deputy Director of the Southern Women's Museum - reviewed the museum's traditions over the 40 years of its formation and development.
On this occasion, the Southern Women's Museum would like to express gratitude for the contributions of the women and aunts who are members of the Southern Women's History Group - the people who laid the foundation for the museum's establishment.
Mr. Tran The Thuan - Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City - highly appreciated the achievements of the Southern Women's Museum in recent times.
The Department commended the sense of responsibility, dynamism and creativity of the museum staff, who actively contributed to the cause of preserving and promoting cultural heritage.
"In the coming time, I suggest that the Southern Women's Museum promote research and collection activities, continue to modernize activities from displaying, explaining, inventorying, preserving artifacts to propagandaand education work, to meet the increasing cultural enjoyment needs of all classes of people.
The museum closely cooperates with other scientific sectors, including tourism economics, to perform well the research and education functions, contributing to the dissemination of the nation's precious historical values, especially the great contributions of Southern women to the cause of national construction and development," Mr. Tran The Thuan emphasized.

Many collectors donate artifacts
At the meeting to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Southern Women's Museum, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tham - former director of the Southern Women's Museum - was honored to receive the Third Class Labor Medal.
On this occasion, the museum received many artifacts from 11 collectors such as: the family of painter Huynh Phuong Dong, sculptor Lam Quang Noi, collectors Nguyen Van Hoa, Le Van Kien, Le Nguyen Ngoc Ly, Dao Phan Ngo...
Also this morning, the Southern Women's Museum opened the thematic exhibition 40-year Journey - Stories from artifacts.
The exhibition introduces typical artifacts and images of the Southern Women's Museum that have been donated and collected over the past 40 years, contributing to inspiring the younger generation about the patriotism and will to rise of women.

On October 20, 1982, more than 200 officials of the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Union unanimously supported and agreed to establish a museum dedicated to women.
After that, an editorial board was formed (later often called the Southern Women's History Group) consisting of 13 veteran cadres and female cadres to search for images, documents, "living documents", forming the work Southern Women's Citadel .
On April 29, 1985, the Southern Women's Traditional House was born.
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday (May 18, 1990), the Southern Women's Museum was inaugurated.
In 1998, the museum received the First Class Labor Medal awarded by the state.
In 2024, the Southern Women's Museum was recognized as a Grade I museum by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
