Stuck in the elevator

On the morning of June 7, Ms. Dang Thanh Ngoc (residing in Xuan Dinh Ward, Bac Tu Liem District, Hanoi ) said that while moving from the 4th floor to the 1st floor by elevator, the power suddenly went out.

Ms. Dang Thanh Ngoc felt panicked after being stuck in the elevator for many hours. Ms. Ngoc said that from now on, she will try to take the stairs because she is afraid of a power outage at any time.

"Around 10 o'clock, when I entered the elevator, while moving down, I suddenly saw the elevator was dark. Having an unexpected problem, I panicked, called for help but received no response. I called the building manager and about 45 minutes later the elevator rescuer arrived. And after about 15 minutes, I got out. Until now, I am still scared," Ms. Ngoc recalled.

In the place where Ms. Ngoc lives, there was no announcement of a power outage on June 7, however, the power outage still occurred unexpectedly, disrupting people's lives.

In the same building as Ms. Ngoc, Mr. Cuong, a worker, said that he had just gone to sleep after a night shift when he woke up because of the heat due to a sudden power outage. "I thought there was a problem with my room, but when I asked, I learned that the whole area had a sudden power outage. Even adults can't stand the heat, let alone children. Sudden power outages like this make life miserable," Mr. Cuong said.

Similar to Ms. Ngoc, Ms. Kim Anh, an office worker at the IPH building (Dich Vong Hau Ward, Cau Giay District, Hanoi) was also stuck in the elevator due to a sudden power outage.

"Although I was only stuck in the elevator at work for a short time, it left me with a haunting feeling. Every time I step into the elevator, I am very scared, not knowing if I will encounter that problem again or not when the power outage in the past few days was sudden and unannounced," Ms. Kim Anh said indignantly.

An elevator rescue and repair worker said that in recent days, the rotating power outage schedule, even sudden power outages in Hanoi, has caused people to become stuck in elevators to become common. "Since this morning, I have been running around Cau Giay District and the surrounding area. When I receive a distress call from people, I have to move from one location to another, not to mention that I am in the middle of a job, so the time people have to wait is quite long," this worker shared.

"Caught off guard" due to sudden power outage

While preparing lunch, the electricity suddenly went out. Ms. Hoang Thi Ha Giang (living in Dich Vong Hau Ward, Cau Giay District) thought the circuit breaker had been tripped, but when she checked, she found out that the power had been cut off. "If the power had been cut off on a schedule, we would have been prepared, but this sudden cut didn't have time to react. It was right at the time of lunch and nap time, and the weather was hot, at least there should have been electricity so that people could continue their daily activities," Ms. Giang reflected.

Coffee shops are an ideal place that many people choose to cope with the situation of power outages lasting many hours a day in the capital.

According to records, at noon on June 7, in Cau Giay District, coffee shops were crowded with students studying, some coffee shops were packed, with no seats left. The large number of students caused some shops to be overloaded.

Studying with a group of friends at a convenience store on Xuan Thuy Street (Cau Giay District), Nguyen Phuong Anh (22 years old), a student at Hanoi National University of Education, said she had to find ways to go to convenience stores and coffee shops near her dormitory to study and avoid the heat.

"This is peak time for students to study for exams. My dorm room is usually small, and this morning there was a sudden power outage, so convenience stores and coffee shops are the best options to avoid the heat and study for exams. However, I have to come early to get a seat, because of the power outage, there are a lot of people coming to these places," Phuong Anh shared.

An employee at a convenience store said that due to the hot weather, there were many customers, but when there was a rotating power outage schedule in each area, customers stayed longer. Recently, the store was even overloaded, with the customer service area packed with seats.
