Granting 'golden visas' to experts, scientists, investors... to Vietnam?

Making some suggestions at the workshop "Which tourists should Vietnam exempt visas for?" on the morning of April 24, Ms. Bui Thi Ngoc Hieu, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, said that first, we can choose to exempt visas for tourists from Australia, the US, Canada or New Zealand because these are countries with high-spending tourists and quite long stays. People from the above countries also experience high-class services in Vietnam. Exempting visas for visitors will help Vietnam increase its competitiveness, attract high-class tourists as well as increase revenue for the industry.

In addition, it is necessary to expand and exempt visas for the remaining countries in the European Union (EU) to attract more visitors from this market. Because tourists from the EU also tend to stay longer, experience more and spend more.

At the same time, it is possible to consider visa exemption for groups and subjects according to customer segments such as MICE guests, medical examination and treatment. For example, it is possible to issue golden visas for experts, scientists, investors... lasting 3-5 years and with multiple entries. Similarly, consider selecting a number of subjects for visa exemption such as tourists staying at 4-5 star hotels; visitors entering the country frequently for the purpose of meetings, business, medical tourism, multiple visits to medical examination and treatment or custom-designed tours to participate in tourism, golf...

In addition to visa policies, Vietnam also needs to facilitate entry for tourists; develop good tourism products to retain visitors; have better promotion... Another point is to expand e-visas on booking platforms, tour booking, air ticket booking... to facilitate tourists when planning to travel to Vietnam. "Expanding visa exemption policies will increase the number of international visitors; increase spending on tourism and services at destinations. Or extend the length of stay so that visitors have more experiences in provinces and cities of Vietnam and also increase opportunities to attract investment in Vietnam, develop the overall economy of the whole country. Moreover, visa exemption for high-end tourists also upgrades and positions Vietnam as a high-end tourist destination, enhancing the brand and position of Vietnam in the global tourism market. Tourism development will spread and lead to the development of aviation, transportation, accommodation, shopping...", Ms. Bui Thi Ngoc Hieu shared.
