APG submarine cable has not been repaired for 8 months, new error discovered

According to information from an internet service provider (ISP) in Vietnam, the APG submarine cable will have to postpone the repair schedule for previous problems due to new errors on branches S1.9 and S9. Two months ago, this line encountered problems on branch S1.7. The consecutive problems have caused the connection capacity from Vietnam to Singapore to not fully recover since the main incident occurred at the end of 2022.

APG line fails for the 4th time in the first 8 months of 2023

According to the old schedule, the repair of branch S1.7 would be completed by the end of August or early September. However, the new incident has prevented the management and repair unit from providing a specific schedule. However, the impact on consumers this time is insignificant because domestic ISPs have had plans to fix, share the load and redirect traffic through land-based fiber optic cables since the breakage of all five submarine cables earlier this year.

Currently, there are five submarine cable lines connecting Vietnam's internet to the world, including AAG (Asia - America); APG (Asia - Pacific); SMW-3 (Southeast Asia - Middle East - Western Europe); IA (Inter-Asia) and AAE-1 (Asia - Africa - Europe). Of which, the APG submarine cable line was officially put into operation in mid-December 2016, with a length of about 10,400 km, located under the Pacific Ocean, with the ability to provide a maximum bandwidth of up to 54 Tbps.

The APG submarine cable has the investment of Vietnamese network operators VNPT, Viettel, FPT Telecom, CMC Telecom and is considered a cable line that contributes to providing stable transmission with larger capacity for internet users in Vietnam.

This is the fourth time the APG line has had problems since the beginning of 2023. The previous problems occurred in January, March, and June. This is currently the only cable line that has not yet been repaired. Meanwhile, IA, AAG, AAE-1, and SMW3 are now operating stably again.
