Timely emergency treatment for foreign crew member with acute appendicitis

(Baoquangngai.vn) - Dung Quat Port Border Guard Station and Dung Quat Port authorities coordinated to promptly provide emergency aid to a foreign crew member working at sea who suffered from acute appendicitis and renal colic.

At around 2:30 p.m. on April 18, while traveling from Quang Ninh to the southern provinces (Vietnam), the transport ship Ivestos 6, captained by Mr. Edwin S. Magtoto, a Filipino, discovered that crew member Wensie S. Bandao, a Filipino, was suffering from severe abdominal pain.

The captain gave medicine as advised by the doctor, but Wensie S.Bandao's pain became more and more severe. Captain Edwin S.Magtoto requested medical assistance from the authorities of Dung Quat port (Quang Ngai).

Upon receiving the rescue request, the Border Guard Station of Dung Quat Port quickly coordinated with the Quang Ngai Maritime Port Authority and Dung Quat Port Customs to use a mobile canoe to the location where the Ivestos 6 ship was anchored to transport the patient to shore; at the same time, the Provincial Border Guard Command requested the vehicle and medical team to move to Dung Quat Port to be on duty to support the patient's emergency.

At 3:00 a.m. on April 19, the joint force brought crew member Wensie S.Bandao to Gemadept Dung Quat port. The provincial Border Guard's medical team examined and provided first aid and urgently transported the patient to the hospital for treatment.
