Certificate of Merit awarded to police major who died while pursuing drug criminals in Quang Ninh

Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh signed Decision No. 794/QD-TTg dated April 18, 2025 to award the "Fatherland's Gratitude" Medal to Mr. Nguyen Dang Khai, Major, Department of Drug Crime Investigation, Quang Ninh Provincial Police, Ministry of Public Security, who sacrificed his life while performing the task of fighting and arresting criminals of illegal drug trafficking.

Major Nguyen Dang Khai was born on August 11, 1996 in Tran Cao town, Phu Cu district (Hung Yen), and died on April 17, 2025 while on duty.

Previously, through the fight against the inter-provincial drug trafficking and transportation ring, at around 8:20 p.m. on April 17, in the area near Dragon Castle apartment building (in Group 10, Zone 10, Bai Chay Ward, Ha Long City, Quang Ninh), the Quang Ninh Provincial Police working group chaired by the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department discovered and arrested 2 subjects, seizing 16 heroin cakes.

Specifically, in the area near Dragon Castle apartment building, Ha Long city, Nguyen Huu Dang was caught red-handed while preparing to trade 16 heroin cakes.

Afterwards, the reconnaissance teams continued to deploy to arrest related subjects, including Bui Dinh Khanh (born in 1994, residing in group 6, area 1, Gieng Day ward, Ha Long city) and a group of subjects from Phu Tho province who moved to Quang Ninh to trade drugs.

During the pursuit in the area near Dai Yen toll station, the task force discovered and arrested Ha Thuong Hai (born in 1994, residing at Thu Cuc Center 2, Tan Son, Phu Tho). The remaining subjects in the car fought back fiercely with AK guns to rescue their accomplices.

During the surprise attack, Lieutenant Nguyen Dang Khai was hit by a bullet fired through the car window and injured in the head. Although his teammates rushed him to Bai Chay Hospital for emergency treatment, Lieutenant Nguyen Dang Khai did not survive. Two other police officers were also injured.

On April 18, the Minister of Public Security also signed Decision No. 2786/QD-BCA-X01 to promote the rank from Senior Lieutenant to Major (promotion beyond rank) from April 17, 2025 for Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Dang Khai.
