The Van Phong – Nha Trang Expressway is more than 83km long, passing through Ninh Hoa town and 3 districts of Van Ninh, Dien Khanh, Khanh Vinh of Khanh Hoa province.
The project has a scale of 4 lanes, 17m wide, maximum speed of 90km/h, started in early 2023, with a total investment of more than 11,800 billion VND.
The project is invested by Project Management Board 7 (Ministry of Transport). The consortium of contractors includes Son Hai Group Co., Ltd., Vietnam Construction and Import-Export Joint Stock Corporation - Vinaconex, and Lizen Joint Stock Company.
The expressway is expected to open to traffic on April 30, 2025 (8 months ahead of schedule), but has now been formed.
Recently, the contractor consortium proposed that the Ministry of Transport and Management Board 7 direct relevant units to complete procedures to exploit a 70km section of the expressway (the section connecting Nha Trang - Cam Lam expressway to Van Gia intersection of Van Ninh district) before January 10. The expressway put into operation will help people travel conveniently during Tet.
The end point of the expressway section through Dien Khanh district, about 23km long, implemented by Son Hai Group, has been basically completed. This is the section connecting to the Nha Trang – Cam Lam expressway.
At this location, there used to be a mountain of rocks on the route. It took the construction unit a year to process the mountain with more than one million cubic meters of rocks. Workers used a crane to reinforce the slope on the highway.
Workers spread the top layer of asphalt concrete, install guardrails and complete road markings.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Dong, manager of the Van Phong – Nha Trang expressway project of Son Hai Group, said that the unit mobilized human resources and construction equipment to complete the final stages before the route was put into operation.
The expressway section through Dien Khanh district is nearly completed and ready for operation.
According to Mr. Dong, up to now, the contractor has completed 99% of the work volume, construction progress 10 months ahead of the contract. "The Group has applied advanced and modern technologies to the construction. In particular, the unit has also pioneered the technology of pouring the median strip directly on the road," said Mr. Dong.
Auxiliary items such as intersections, protective corridors, distance keeping, and hard median strips are installed by the contractor.
Speaking to reporters, the contractor commander of the Vietnam Construction and Import-Export Joint Stock Corporation - Vinaconex said that the expressway project has complex terrain, and construction requires crossing mountains and forests. The entire route has a total of 34 bridges. Of which, Khanh Binh bridge, the longest on the Van Phong - Nha Trang expressway, was closed in October after 14 months of construction.
The bridge is nearly 700m long, with a total construction value of more than 206 billion VND; has 4 lanes, is 17.5m wide, and spans Provincial Road 8 and a mountain valley located in a complex terrain area in the northeast of Khanh Binh commune, Khanh Vinh district.
Up to now, this unit has completed the construction of bridges on the highway to put into operation.
In Ninh Hoa town, workers are busy working on the construction site. Many electric poles are installed. The highway surface is paved with asphalt and painted lanes.
The expressway through Ninh Hoa town is being constructed by the contractor of Lizen Joint Stock Company. According to the contractor, the construction process encountered problems with site clearance and high-voltage power poles. To date, these difficulties have been resolved, many high-voltage power poles have been relocated, newly installed, and the site has been basically handed over.
The contractor mobilized hundreds of workers divided into 3 shifts, 4 crews, along with machinery and equipment to construct and soon put the highway into operation.
When put into operation, the Van Phong – Nha Trang Expressway will help connect with other expressways on the route and shorten the distance and travel time.
