The Vietnam Road Administration has just submitted to the Ministry of Transport for approval the adjustment of the Road Network Planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.
In particular, the Vietnam Road Administration proposed adjusting the scale of 4 expressway sections: Phap Van - Phu Thu, Ben Luc - Trung Luong, Can Tho - Ca Mau, Noi Bai - Bac Ninh - Ha Long.
Specifically, it is proposed to increase the scale of the North-South expressway in the East, the Phap Van - Phu Thu section from 8 lanes to 10 - 12 lanes; the Ben Luc - Trung Luong section from 6 lanes to 10 - 12 lanes; and the Can Tho - Ca Mau section from 4 lanes to 6 lanes.
Vietnam Road Administration said that the adjustment of the scale of the Phap Van - Phu Thu, Ben Luc - Trung Luong, Can Tho - Ca Mau sections is based on the updated national master plan on GDP growth rate, increased transportation demand; regional development orientation, prioritizing the construction of expressways connecting Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho with localities in and outside the region.
The adjustment of scale and expansion of routes also aims to update the orientation of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Can Tho as the growth poles of the dynamic regions of the North, South, and the Mekong Delta.
Regarding the Noi Bai - Bac Ninh - Ha Long expressway, this is one of two expressways on the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh economic corridor, so it is necessary to adjust the scale.
In addition to proposing to adjust the scale of the above 4 expressway sections, the draft planning also adds new planning for 2 expressways Ca Mau - Dat Mui and Quang Ngai - Kon Tum.
Accordingly, the Ca Mau - Dat Mui expressway is about 90km long with a scale of 4 lanes, the Quang Ngai - Kon Tum expressway is about 136km long with a scale of 4 lanes; expected to be invested before 2030.
