Completed in November
The Cao Lanh - An Huu Expressway starts at the intersection with the My An - Cao Lanh Expressway in Cao Lanh District, Dong Thap Province. The end point is at the intersection with the Trung Luong - My Thuan Expressway in Cai Be District, Tien Giang Province.
The only girder section on Cao Lanh - An Huu highway, component project 1, section through Dong Thap province.
The project is divided into 2 component projects. Of which, component project 1, the section passing through Dong Thap province, is 16km long, with a total investment of more than 3,600 billion VND and a construction period of 840 days.
The project is implemented by a joint venture of VNCN E&C Construction and Engineering Investment Joint Stock Company - Thien An Mechanical and Construction Company Limited and DACINCO Construction Investment Company Limited.
Mr. Phan Van Hanh, Project Manager, Thien An Mechanical and Construction Company Limited (construction contractor) said that the section implemented by the company is 3.5km long.
Workers are busy constructing and the floor beams are expected to be completed next November.
In addition to the construction of bridges and roads in the project, the contractor also carried out 680m of continuous floor beams. Up to now, the floor beam section constructed by the contractor has completed 571m, reaching 84%.
"Currently, at the construction site, the company is arranging for workers to construct the 4-layer floor slab, pillars and the 4-layer floor slab. In October, the company will continue to complete an additional 33m of floor beams and it is expected that by the end of November, the contractor will complete the floor beam section according to regulations," Mr. Hanh added.
Construction solutions during the waiting period for sand
Cao Lanh - An Huu Expressway, component project 1, section through Dong Thap province started construction at the end of June 2023, but sand did not arrive at the construction site until mid-May 2024. Therefore, during the one year waiting for sand to arrive at the construction site to build the road, the contractor, in addition to constructing the bridges included in the project, also carried out the continuous beam and slab section included in the design.
The construction of floor beams helps maintain progress while waiting for sand to fill the Cao Lanh - An Huu highway foundation.
Thanks to that, the project progress has been maintained stably and currently, the contractor is speeding up construction after 4 sand mines handed over by Dong Thap province under a special mechanism have been exploited.
Mr. Mai Ngoc Dien, consultant and supervisor of component project 1, Cao Lanh - An Huu expressway, section through Dong Thap province, said that compared to building a normal road, the cost of building a floor beam on the expressway is slightly higher.
However, in return, the construction of floor beams and site clearance work is lighter because the floor beams are constructed at a high altitude, and the land area used for construction is smaller than that of conventional roads.
Floor beams also help maintenance and repair work to be lighter than conventional roads.
In addition, the floor beams are built with reinforced concrete. Therefore, in the face of the difficulty in sourcing sand for the foundation in the past, the floor beams can still be constructed continuously, saving time waiting for the necessary materials for road construction.
"When building a normal road, although it costs less, the maintenance and repair work is more than making a floor beam. Meanwhile, making a floor beam on a highway depends on the construction conditions and design of the project," Mr. Dien added.
Of which, component project 1 is 16km long, passing through Dong Thap province, with a total investment of over VND3,600 billion. Component project 2 is 11.4km long, located in Tien Giang and Dong Thap provinces, with an investment of over VND2,200 billion.
The scale of the completed phase cross-section meets the standards of a four-lane highway. The cross-section of phase 1 is divided into four-lane investment scales, with a roadbed width of 17m and an operating speed of 80km/h.
