Just before gunfire erupted at Mr Trump’s rally on July 13, witnesses desperately tried to tell police that there was a sniper crawling on the roof.
"You could clearly see he had a rifle," a witness said. "We were pointing at him, but the police were still on the ground. We were like, 'Hey, there's a guy on the roof with a rifle,' and the police were like, 'Huh?' They didn't know what was going on."

The witness claimed he and his friends tried to call the police for several minutes as Secret Service agents watched, but decided not to act until between five and eight shots were fired, which he said “100 percent” came from the man on the roof with the rifle.
"He was up there for a few minutes, at least three or four minutes. We pointed him out to the Secret Service, but they just looked at us the whole time."
Another witness to the attempted assassination said he tried twice to warn police about the gunman before shots rang out. He said he was waiting for Mr Trump like everyone else when he noticed a suspicious figure above.
"I saw a guy on the roof and I went to tell the police. When I got back to my place, I heard that people could still see the guy… And I went back to convince the police to come there. But as soon as I turned around, the shooting started."
It was only after the gunman opened fire that police acted. "They shot him in the head," the witness said.

Mr Trump was not seriously injured, only his right ear was injured, but one person died and another was seriously injured. The shooter was killed.
Billionaire Elon Musk also criticized the Secret Service for failing to stop the sniper. He posted on social media X with the content: "The head of the Secret Service and the head of this security team should resign."

The outdoor campaign event was held at the Butler Farm Show grounds, where vast, sprawling fields gave snipers a near-unobstructed view of the former US President from their vantage points.
The Secret Service sniper team returned fire from the roof of another building near Mr Trump, just behind the stage. Law enforcement sources said an AR-style semi-automatic assault rifle was recovered at the scene.
