According to police documents obtained by AFP, around 40 people took part in the raid in search of Rolex watches that Peruvian President Dina Boluarte had not declared.

Police said the raid was "aimed at finding and seizing" Rolex watches like the ones above.

The raid, a joint operation between police and the prosecutor's office, was broadcast on Peru's Latina television channel.

The raid comes after Peruvian authorities this month opened an investigation into President Boluarte after a newspaper reported she was wearing luxury watches whose mysterious origins had not been disclosed in public records.

Peruvian President Dina Boluarte takes office in December 2022

There is no information yet on President Boluarte's reaction.

President Boluarte took office in December 2022, after former President Pedro Castillo attempted to dissolve parliament and govern by decree, leading to his swift overthrow and arrest, according to AFP.

Ms Boluarte accused Mr Castillo of fuelling political polarisation during his nearly 17 months in office. However, since Mr Castillo’s arrest, protests have continued across the country demanding Ms Boluarte’s resignation, the dissolution of parliament and immediate elections.
