"The Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security highly appreciates the decision of the Korean Coast Guard to sponsor patrol boats for the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security," General To Lam, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security, affirmed during a meeting and talks with Commander of the Korean Coast Guard Kim Jong-uk on June 21 in Hanoi.
Minister To Lam stated that, based on the results of the working session between the two agencies in April 2023, the working levels of the two sides have actively exchanged and coordinated to quickly implement cooperation programs and plans in a practical and effective manner. The Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Korean Coast Guard Agency, which is about to be signed, is a highlight in the implementation of the action program to implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries, and is an important milestone in establishing long-term commitments of the two agencies in areas of mutual interest.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security highly appreciates the decision of the Korean Coast Guard to sponsor patrol boats for the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security. This demonstrates the interest and mutual support in cooperation in combating transnational crimes and enhancing the search and rescue capacity of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security Police.
On the Korean side, Commander Kim Jong-uk affirmed that he will promote the completion of key cooperation contents between the two sides, and in the immediate future, will speed up the completion of procedures to soon hand over the patrol boat to the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security, and at the same time propose that the Korean Government provide technical support and maintenance to accompany this patrol boat.
To further strengthen the cooperative relationship between the two sides in the coming time, at the talks, the two sides agreed to actively implement key cooperation activities in which Korea has strengths and is suitable to the needs of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security; organize training programs to improve the capacity of the Waterway Police, the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security to master patrol ships sponsored by the Korean Coast Guard.
The two sides exchanged delegations of leaders and working levels to grasp the actual situation of the operations of the Korean Coast Guard and the Vietnam Traffic Police (in charge of waterways). From there, specific cooperation plans were proposed to deepen bilateral cooperation, commensurate with the cooperation potential of the two agencies.
