Previously, at 1:40 p.m. the same day, cargo ship An Binh Phat 68 carrying 4,000 tons of stone powder was on its way from Thanh Hoa to Quang Ngai.
When reaching the position of 15.43 degrees North latitude - 108.33 degrees East longitude, about 4.5 nautical miles east of the coast of Binh Hai commune (Thang Binh district, Quang Nam), the ship was hit by waves causing it to tilt 45 degrees.
After the ship sank, eight crew members boarded life rafts and sent out an urgent distress call.
Immediately afterwards, a coast guard ship of Coast Guard Region 2 arrived and rescued 8 crew members and brought them to Ky Ha port.
Currently, the crew members are mentally stable and in good health.
In addition to the sinking of the An Binh Phat 68 ship, at around 8:50 p.m. on September 17, the Qna-91180 TS ship (with 12 workers) while operating about 46 nautical miles northeast of Ly Son Island (Quang Ngai) suffered a broken propeller, at risk of breaking water.
Upon receiving the news, the Provincial Border Guard Command coordinated with the ship owner to use all measures to mobilize ships operating near the area, closely coordinate, and urgently provide assistance.
At 12 noon today, the Coast Guard ship approached and towed the Qna-91180 TS ship and workers to the mainland.
