One of the familiar noodle soup shops for many people in Saigon, with many names over the years such as upstairs noodle soup, rail noodle soup or the longest-standing name - Me Toi noodle soup.

Mr. Phan Duy Tan, son of the restaurant's founder, Mrs. Men, named the restaurant My Mother's noodle soup to show gratitude for his mother's noodle soup pots that raised him and his siblings.
According to regular customers, the shop used to be located near Tran Huu Trang market (Ward 10, Phu Nhuan District), then moved to 115/62 Le Van Sy (Ward 13, Phu Nhuan District) in a small alley nestled on one side of the railway tracks.
My Mother's Noodle Soup, 40 years of attachment to Phu Nhuan people
My Mother's Noodle Soup is open from 10am to 7pm every day. During lunch or rush hour, the small alley becomes even more bustling with diners from all over the city.
Many people have heard of the restaurant's reputation and come to enjoy it. There are also regular customers who have been eating here for decades. They don't need to order anything as the staff brings the food out to them.
The price of a bowl of noodle soup ranges from 30,000 to 35,000 VND. According to regular customers, the prices here have increased rapidly. 10 years ago, a bowl cost less than 20,000 VND, but many customers still choose to stick with Me Toi noodle soup because of its familiar taste.

My first impression of Me Toi's noodle soup is that the dish is very rustic, with simple ingredients like crab meatballs, meatballs and a thick piece of ham.
In addition, water spinach and morning glory mixed with crab broth give a very light taste, not boring like vermicelli soup with blood, snails, pig's feet ...
To make the noodle soup more flavorful, customers can add a spoonful of spicy satay sauce.
It is known that in the past, Ms. Men once went to Mr. Tiet Chan Quang, the owner of the famous Quang Ky noodle shop in Cho Lon, to learn his satay making profession.
Is that why My Mother's satay restaurant has a different flavor from many other restaurants?
In addition, many customers coming to the restaurant also order a plate of fried tofu to eat "for fun", dipped in a bowl of homemade shrimp paste, it is extremely crispy and delicious.

Ms. Hong Quynh has been a regular customer of the restaurant for more than 30 years, since the time when it was just a small restaurant in Cho Moi (now Tran Huu Trang market), at that time a bowl of noodle soup cost only 1,500 VND.
"I first ate here when I was in elementary school, and this was also the first bowl of noodle soup I ever had. What I like most is that the broth and the crab soup here are made from pureed crab, making the broth very clear.
In addition, the restaurant's boiled water spinach and water mimosa are green, crispy, and delicious. The noodle bowl also doesn't have as many side dishes as other restaurants," Ms. Quynh shared.
On social networks, many people say that the taste of Me Toi restaurant is not as good as it was many years ago.
Many people told each other to go eat at Can noodle soup restaurant, also opened by one of Mrs. Men's children to follow in her mother's footsteps.
This change may be because Mr. Duy Tan's skills are not the same as his mother's, or it may be because the ingredients are no longer of the same quality as before. However, in the writer's opinion, this is still a must-try dish for food lovers in Ho Chi Minh City.
