(HNMO) - On June 18, the Da Nang City Police widely disseminated information to warn people about the existence of some new methods and tricks for defrauding property.
Firstly, there is the tactic of forging documents of agencies and organizations; using forged documents of agencies and organizations in executing contracts for the purchase and sale of motorcycles and scooters. Recently, the Da Nang City Police have uncovered many such cases.
Specifically, the individuals colluded to legitimize motorcycle sales contracts and power of attorney agreements with forged certifications from local People's Committees and police, with the aim of legitimizing the transfer of ownership and registration of motorcycles.
Using various methods and tricks, the perpetrators created and sold approximately 2,000 documents to numerous individuals to legitimize the transfer of ownership and registration of used motorcycles and scooters in many provinces and cities nationwide, thereby carrying out numerous scams with losses ranging from a few million to billions of dong (verified before the seller's, buyer's, and other information was available).
Secondly, there is the method of fraudulent appropriation of assets through borrowing and enticing investment capital. This involves exploiting the borrower's often naive trust in friends, colleagues, or neighbors, leading them to not verify the lender's reasons before proceeding with loan applications or investment for profit.
On the other hand, scammers often build trust with victims in various ways, such as: repaying loans on time multiple times, or providing information about high profits to exploit the greed of lenders and investors (information about policies regarding projects, but the scammers are not involved in those projects and do not have the right to buy, sell, or transfer ownership of those projects).
Those using this scheme often paint a picture of quick, profitable investments. Alternatively, when jointly investing in real estate, they might claim ownership of the property, then sell it to someone else, misappropriating the victims' investment funds. After receiving the money from loans or investments, they use it for personal purposes, to pay off debts, etc., before absconding.
The police determined that the aforementioned fraudulent acts of property appropriation caused tens of billions of dong in losses to the victims, leading to anxiety and panic among the public and negatively impacting social order and security.
The Da Nang City Police Department advises those lending money or investing capital to verify information and carefully check the reasons given by the individuals involved before proceeding with any lending or investment procedures in accordance with the law. If any fraud or embezzlement occurs, report it immediately to the nearest police station.
