ANTD.VN - The Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (VINAFRUIT) has issued an urgent notice regarding the fraudulent copying of durian growing area codes and durian packaging facility codes by several individuals.
Fraudulent practices in durian exports negatively impact the industry and the reputation of businesses. |
VINAFRUIT reports that some individuals have been fraudulently copying durian growing area codes and packaging facility codes through authorization contracts using fake or self-made seals and signatures to deceive businesses and circumvent state authorities for profit, thereby facilitating export to the Chinese market.
VINAFRUIT strongly opposes this situation. According to the Association, this serious violation not only directly affects the reputation of the Vietnamese durian industry, eroding the trust of Chinese and international consumers, but also causes significant damage to legitimate durian producers and businesses.
Authorities in importing countries may tighten controls on Vietnamese durian, affecting the export activities of businesses (due to the revocation of the registration number by China for violating quality regulations).
Furthermore, fraudulent practices create unfair competition in the market, harming legitimate durian production and trading businesses.
Therefore, the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association proposes that relevant authorities strengthen inspection, supervision, and strict review of durian packaging and export facilities, and severely punish violations, whether reported or not; and complete the database of planting area codes and packaging facility codes to facilitate management and product traceability.
Publicly disclosing the list of durian production and packaging facilities that meet standards will help consumers choose reliable products.
The Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association calls on durian businesses and producers to join hands in protecting the reputation of the industry and strictly comply with legal regulations.
According to VINAFRUIT representatives, durian exports reached over $3.1 billion in the first 11 months of 2024, accounting for nearly half of the total fruit and vegetable export value in 2024. China remains the leading market for Vietnamese durian, accounting for 90% of the total export value, equivalent to over $2.8 billion in the first 11 months. This represents a 43% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
Thailand ranked second, importing approximately $177 million worth of durian, an 82% increase compared to the same period last year. The markets in Hong Kong (China) and Japan also recorded growth rates of 16% and 85% respectively compared to last year.
Vietnamese durian exports to Cambodia alone increased 139 times, reaching nearly 3 million USD.
This year's fruit and vegetable export turnover is estimated at 7.1 billion USD, an increase of nearly 27% compared to the same period last year. Thus, durian accounts for almost half of the revenue from fruit and vegetable exports.
