Seaports maintain steady growth in the first quarter

According to the assessment of the Quang Ninh Maritime Port Authority, in the first quarter of 2025, seaport and logistics activities in Quang Ninh will remain stable. State management of maritime and seaports has been constantly innovated; administrative procedure reform, brand promotion, and optimization of port operations have been actively promoted... thereby creating an open working environment towards improving service quality.

Specifically, in the first quarter of 2025, ports in the province welcomed over 34,000 ships to load and unload goods, with cargo output reaching over 40 million tons, up 7.07% over the same period in 2024. Of which, the strongest increase was in imported coal, wood chips, dry goods, machinery and equipment, and general goods. In particular, the transport of international tourists to the province through seaports reached nearly 73,000 people.

Mr. Hoang Song Tung, Deputy Director of Quang Ninh Maritime Port Authority, said: Although the growth in the first quarter has not reached double digits, the increase of more than 7% in the context of many international fluctuations has shown the great efforts of units and functional agencies in ensuring stable development of seaport activities through many specific solutions. In particular, the province has promoted economic development activities to ensure the growth target of 14% in 2025; accompanying and creating favorable conditions for businesses to develop and expand production and business.

The sharp increase in coal products in the first quarter was due to the fact that thermal power plants and units increased imports to prepare for electricity production activities that are expected to increase sharply in the coming summer. As for wood chips, after storm Yagi, the forest area in Quang Ninh was severely damaged. To accompany and support people in consumption, processing units have actively collected and promoted exports. Along with that, to contribute to the growth target of the province, the processing and manufacturing industry is promoting production and export. This is also the period when many new factories are stepping up investment and construction... Therefore, the demand for transporting equipment and machinery has increased, promoting maritime transport activities.

Regarding sea passenger transport activities, thanks to the attention to promoting and implementing many innovative policies, creating favorable conditions for attracting cruise ship passengers to Vietnam, such as: Promoting administrative procedure reform at seaports; reducing port fees for ships entering Vietnam; opening a number of new destinations for foreign tourists to visit; Quang Ninh has built a brand as an important "anchoring" point in the itinerary of tours; this time is still the peak season for cruise tourism... therefore, the number of visitors to Quang Ninh has increased sharply, reaching nearly 73,000 visitors.

In that context, Quang Ninh Maritime Port Authority and related units are still making great efforts to remove difficulties and accompany businesses.

Specifically, in the face of the US imposing new taxes on Vietnamese exports to the US, the Port Authority has requested port businesses, ship owners, and shipping service providers to create favorable conditions for cargo owners and shipping lines to prioritize loading and unloading shipments exported to the US onto ships at the request of customers; speed up the release of ships to minimize negative impacts on export costs and business operations, minimize delays and cancellations of scheduled trips; strictly prohibit acts of taking advantage of the market during volatile periods to unreasonably increase prices...

With a favorable start from the first months of the year, proactive innovation, and accompanying businesses, we believe that seaport activities in Quang Ninh in the coming months will continue to receive many positive results, making an important contribution to the province's economic growth.
