The two provinces with the largest number of international students in Canada, Ontario and British Columbia, have recently announced some drastic measures to limit the influx of students after the government announced restrictions on foreign students for the next 2 years.
Accordingly, the British Columbia provincial government will not approve the establishment of new private educational institutions to recruit international students for the next two years.
Ontario has previously announced measures such as closely monitoring the admissions process, requiring institutions to guarantee accommodation for international students, and increasing inspections of private post-secondary institutions. In addition, it has banned joint ventures and partnerships between private colleges and public schools to prevent abuse of public school admissions permits.
