Beware of misinformation.

Confused because the question contained incorrect information and there were no answers.

Believing that the sample test papers distributed at school closely followed the structure of the Ministry of Education and Training's curriculum, but the questions were repetitive and lacked innovation, Vu Ngoc Huy, a 12th-grade student at Nguyen Du High School in Thai Binh , independently searched for additional test papers online to practice. However, according to Huy, encountering incorrect knowledge questions while solving them is quite common.

Besides factual errors, Ngoc Huy believes that current online sample exam questions contain flaws such as illogical question structures and language that doesn't match the answers.

Similarly, Do Mai Huong (a 12th-grade student at Le Quy Don High School, Thai Binh) shared: "I'm focusing on the history and geography subjects for the humanities/social sciences (Block C). Besides the Ministry's sample exam, I've also solved other problems assigned by my teachers, problems I found on Facebook and Google, and problems I solved on my own using exam preparation books. Some problems had no matching answers or completely wrong answers, which confused me because I thought I had made a mistake."

Students should obtain sample questions from reputable sources to avoid misunderstanding the material.

According to Huong, sample test questions online often contain factual errors because the uploader or the source is either copying them from different sources and then editing them without checking the answers, leading to mistakes. "We do practice tests to familiarize ourselves with the structure and reinforce our knowledge. If the sample questions are wrong and go undetected, we could easily lose points when studying accordingly," the female student shared.

Furthermore, Nguyen Le Toan (a 12th-grade student at Long Phu Secondary and High School, Vinh Long ) stated that some people are currently offering online exam preparation classes but lack expertise and a solid understanding of the subject matter. "These sample questions are often taken from various sources, with some data changed but the answers unchanged, making them impossible to solve. I usually refer to sample questions from official sources of other schools and past exam papers to avoid misunderstandings that could lead to lost points," Toan commented.

PRACTICE EXAM QUESTIONS REQUIRE KNOWLEDGE OF SELECTION

During the review process for the high school graduation exam, practicing with sample questions or past exam papers helps students assess their abilities. However, Ms. Duong Thi Huynh (biology teacher at Nguyen Thien Thanh Specialized High School, Tra Vinh ) noted that the sample questions available online are currently too widespread and many contain inaccurate information.

The question, which included a controversial answer, was found by Ngoc Huy in a sample test taken from the internet.

"Students solving sample exam questions widely available online can significantly impact their revision process and results. This can lead to misunderstandings, incorrect exam structure, or the adoption of incorrect problem-solving methods, wasting time and negatively affecting their actual exam results," Ms. Huynh shared.

"You should focus on solving sample exam papers from the Ministry of Education, as well as actual exam papers from 2017 onwards, to understand the exam structure and stay updated on this year's exam trends. Additionally, you can solve practice exams from other schools and provinces to improve your reaction speed and reinforce your knowledge. If you refer to online exam papers, you should cross-check with a specialist teacher to ensure the accuracy of the information in the questions," Ms. Huynh advised.

Sharing the same view, Dr. Ngo Thi Lan Huong (Hanoi Pedagogical University 2) said: "During exam preparation, students tend to want to find more sample questions online to solve. In fact, I have received many 'help requests' from students because those sample questions, although based on basic knowledge, contain many flawed questions, with more than one correct answer or no correct answer at all… With history, when students do not have a firm grasp of the knowledge and problem-solving methods, accessing them from unreliable websites will lead to misunderstandings of historical issues."

According to Dr. Huong, during the "final push" phase, students should focus on reviewing their knowledge, because the revision process requires mastering the knowledge first before practicing with exam questions, not the other way around.

"Students must carefully analyze each question in the exam to choose the correct answer; simply skimming through the questions can easily lead to confusion. Furthermore, when referring to sample exam questions online, students should avoid questions or issues that are controversial in study groups to maintain a clear and sharp mind," Ms. Huong concluded.

Effective ways to prepare for history exam questions.

Huynh Lam (a student from the History Department, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City) commented that practicing with sample questions beforehand helps students consolidate their knowledge, hone their test-taking skills, and avoid feeling overwhelmed before entering the exam room. However, students should carefully select and filter sample questions from reputable sources for effective revision, and should ask a qualified teacher to check their work if they are unsure about the questions and answers.

According to Mr. Lam, the most effective way to review history is to be able to summarize and systematize the issues together. He suggests using the "circle and cross out - KKGG" method developed by Dr. Ngo Thi Lan Huong when doing the exercises.

"Students will use a pen to circle the numerical and written dates that appear in the history question. This will help students correctly identify the dates of the events and avoid confusion. Next, students will use a slash to indicate incorrect keywords in the answer and underline the correct keywords in the answer key," Mr. Lam shared.
