Beware of false knowledge

CONFUSED BECAUSE THE QUESTION HAS WRONG KNOWLEDGE, NO ANSWERS

Believing that the sample questions distributed in schools are similar to the structure of the Ministry of Education and Training but the questions are repetitive and lack innovation, Vu Ngoc Huy, a 12th grade student at Nguyen Du High School in Thai Binh, searched for more questions online to do. However, according to Huy, it is quite common to encounter questions that are incorrect while solving a test.

In addition to incorrect knowledge, Ngoc Huy said that currently, sample questions on the internet have errors such as unreasonable question formulation and question language that does not match the answers.

Similarly, Do Mai Huong (grade 12 student at Le Quy Don High School, Thai Binh) shared: "I am focusing on the knowledge of history and geography according to group C. In addition to the Ministry's sample exam questions, I have solved other questions assigned by teachers at school, questions I got from Facebook, Google and bought practice books to solve myself. There are some questions that do not have matching answers or completely wrong answers, making me confused because I think I did it wrong."

Students should get reference questions from reputable sources to avoid misunderstanding knowledge.

According to Huong, sample questions online are often incorrect in terms of knowledge because the person posting them or taking them from different sources, then editing them without checking the answers, leading to mistakes. "We do the questions to get used to the structure and consolidate our knowledge. If the sample questions are incorrect and are not detected, it will be easy to lose points when studying," the female student shared.

In addition, Nguyen Le Toan (grade 12 student at Long Phu Secondary and High School, Vinh Long) said that currently some people open online exam preparation classes but they are not specialized and do not have a solid grasp of knowledge. "These sample questions are often taken from many different sources, changing some facts but not changing the answers so they cannot be solved. I often refer to sample questions from official sources of other schools, exam questions from previous years to avoid misunderstandings leading to losing points," Toan commented.

When practicing, you must know how to select questions carefully.

In the process of reviewing and preparing for the high school graduation exam, practicing sample questions or previous years' exam questions will help students assess their abilities. However, Ms. Duong Thi Huynh (biology teacher, Nguyen Thien Thanh High School for the Gifted, Tra Vinh) commented that the reference questions on the internet are currently too widespread and many questions are not accurate in terms of information.

The question has a controversial answer that Ngoc Huy found in a reference question taken from the internet.

"Students solving sample questions that are widely available online can greatly affect their review process and results. As a result, students may misunderstand knowledge, review the wrong question structure, or learn in the wrong way, wasting time and affecting their real exam results," Ms. Huynh shared.

"You should focus on solving the Ministry's reference questions and real exam questions from 2017 onwards to know the structure of the questions as well as update the new exam trends of this year. In addition, you can solve more mock exams from other schools and provinces to practice your reflexes and consolidate your knowledge. If you refer to more questions online, you should cross-check with a professional teacher to ensure the accuracy of the knowledge in the questions," Ms. Huynh advised.

Sharing the same opinion, Dr. Ngo Thi Lan Huong (Hanoi Pedagogical University 2) said: "During the process of practicing, students tend to want to find more reference questions online to solve. In fact, I have received many messages "asking for help" from students, because those reference questions, although based on basic knowledge, have many "mistakes" questions, have more than 1 correct answer or no correct answer... With history, when students do not have a firm grasp of the knowledge and the way to solve the questions that they access on unreliable websites will lead to misunderstandings about historical issues."

In the "sprint" stage, according to Dr. Huong, students should spend time focusing on reviewing their knowledge, because the review process requires mastering the knowledge before practicing the questions, not the other way around.

"You have to carefully analyze each question in the exam to choose the correct answer. If you just skim through the questions, you will easily confuse the answer. In addition, when referring to sample questions online, students should avoid controversial questions or issues in study groups to keep their mind and spirit clear and alert," Ms. Huong concluded.

How to review history effectively

Mr. Huynh Lam (a student of the Faculty of History, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City) commented that practicing the questions in advance helps students consolidate their knowledge, practice their test-taking skills, and avoid being confused before entering the exam room. However, students should carefully select and screen sample questions from reputable sources for effective review, and should ask a qualified teacher to check if they are unsure about the questions and answers.

According to Mr. Lam, the most effective way to review history is to know how to generalize and systematize the issues together. Use the "circle, dash, and dash" method of Dr. Ngo Thi Lan Huong when doing the test.

"Students will use a pen to circle the numerical and written timelines that appear in the history questions. This will help students identify the correct timeline of events and avoid confusion. Next, students will use a cross for incorrect keywords in the answer and underline the correct keywords in the answer key," Mr. Lam shared.
