The headquarters of the local revolution during the resistance period
In August 1968, in the context of many changes in the war situation in the South, the Standing Committee of the Zone 6 Party Committee decided to dissolve the Bac Binh Provincial Party Committee and establish a new province - Binh Tuy Province. From then on, the Binh Tuy Provincial Party Committee was established and led the revolutionary movement in the province until the day of liberation and national reunification. After liberation, the Central Committee merged Binh Tuy Province back into Binh Thuan Province and unified Binh Thuan Province as it is today.
The first base of the Binh Tuy Provincial Party Committee was located in sub-region 368, Song Dinh Forestry Farm - now in Duc Thuan commune, Tanh Linh district. This area is located at the foot of Ong mountain, along the upper Phan river - a primeval forest with flat, secluded terrain, convenient for deploying revolutionary forces during the fierce war. This is where not only the Provincial Party Committee is located but also many important agencies such as the Provincial Military Command, the Finance Department, the Civil Medicine Department, Logistics, the Military School, the Corridor Department... are concentrated, forming a complete system, closely linked within a radius of 1 - 2 km. It was here that in August 1969, the first Congress to establish the Provisional Revolutionary People's Committee of Binh Tuy province was held - a significant political milestone, demonstrating the maturity and strength of the local revolutionary organization.
The time the Binh Tuy Provincial Party Committee operated at this base lasted from August 1968 to November 1969. Although it was only over a year, this place witnessed many important meetings and heated discussions to propose policies and plans to direct the resistance. The base was not only a place for cadres to work and live, but also a center for uniting forces, mobilizing people's strength, creating a solid people's war posture, contributing significantly to the victory of the revolution in Binh Tuy province in particular and the South in general.
Traditional values and messages to today's generation
Binh Tuy Provincial Party Committee Base not only has pure historical value, but is also a place where the noble qualities of the Vietnamese people in the resistance war converge: Courage, resilience, creativity and devotion to the cause of national independence. In extremely difficult conditions - lacking food, medicine, and combat equipment - the cadres and soldiers still firmly held their ground, stuck with the people, built the movement, fought the enemy and protected the base. It was that spirit that created great strength, helping the revolution overcome countless challenges to achieve complete victory in 1975.
After the liberation day, Binh Tuy province was merged back into Binh Thuan province according to the Central's policy, unifying into one province as it is today. However, the historical marks left by the Binh Tuy Provincial Party Committee still have their original value. Realizing this, the Standing Committee of the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee has been determining the location of the memorial stele of the Binh Tuy Provincial Party Committee base during the resistance war against the US at the old base location - the Phan River area. This is not only a tribute to the previous generation, but also aims to preserve and promote the traditional revolutionary values for future generations. Currently, the Phan River Base is located about 300 m from National Highway 55. This place has convenient traffic connecting the center of Tanh Linh district with National Highway 1A, which is a favorable condition for the construction of the resistance historical relic site as well as tourism development in the future.
The construction of the relic site not only has historical significance but also profound educational value. It will be a place to organize activities about the source, a practical learning destination for students and youth union members, so that they can understand that today's independence and freedom are the result of the blood, sweat and effort of generations of predecessors.
