K20 Revolutionary Base was the name given by the District 3 Party Committee as a communication code during the anti-American period. This was originally a secret, unique base located in the heart of the enemy, a buffer zone for our soldiers, cadres and guerrillas to use as a springboard to attack the bases of the American imperialists and the Saigon government.
During the period from 1964 to 1975, the people of K20 built 157 secret tunnels and a complex underground tunnel system to hide cadres, store weapons, food and important documents. These secret tunnels were dug everywhere in the house, under the bed, in the garden, on the porch, forming a solid fortress. Currently, some secret tunnels still exist and are ranked as national historical relics such as Mr. Huynh Phien's house, Mrs. Nhieu's temple, Huynh clan temple and Mr. Huynh Trung's house.
When visiting K20, visitors can experience the feeling of crawling through secret tunnels, learning about how people used them to fight against enemies. The K20 traditional house is also a place to display many rich documents and artifacts, helping the public visualize the heroic revolutionary movement of the people of Da Nang City in general and K20 in particular.
In 2010, the K20 Revolutionary Base was ranked as a national relic by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, becoming a place to study and educate patriotic traditions for thousands of students and local people. In December 2023, the K20 Revolutionary Base was honored to receive the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces, affirming its role and importance in national history.
