For a long time, the Gianh Bridge, Quan Hau Bridge, and Deo Ngang Tunnel projects connecting Ha Tinh and Quang Binh provinces have often experienced traffic congestion during rush hours, especially when there are traffic accidents due to the two-lane design.

The new Quan Hau Bridge is being studied with a length of about 2.1km; the road section will be designed with a roadbed width of 20.5m, including 4 lanes with a speed of 80km/h.

Faced with the above situation, the Ministry of Transport has recently approved a project to upgrade and expand a number of bridges and tunnels on National Highway 1, including Gianh and Quan Hau bridges and Deo Ngang tunnel through the two localities of Ha Tinh and Quang Binh.

Investing in new bridge projects will reduce pressure on existing bridges, contributing to ensuring traffic safety and socio-economic development for localities.

Gianh Bridge (crossing Gianh River) on National Highway 1 is 2.10km long. The starting point is about Km 624+799 in Ba Don town, Quang Binh province. The ending point is about Km 626+901 in Ha Trach commune, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province.

The "bottleneck" points on National Highway 1A through Quang Binh and Ha Tinh will be resolved if new projects are invested in.

Quan Hau Bridge (crossing Nhat Le River) on National Highway 1 is 1.50km long. The starting point is about Km 670+613 in Quan Hau town, Quang Ninh district, Quang Binh province. The ending point is about Km 672+386 in Vo Ninh commune, Quang Ninh district, Quang Binh province.

The existing Gianh Bridge across Gianh River (Quang Binh) is often congested due to collisions and traffic accidents.

The new Gianh Bridge will be designed with 4 motor lanes and 2 mixed lanes with a speed of 80km/h.

Deo Ngang Tunnel will be built with a new 555m long tunnel to the west of the current tunnel and two bridges at both ends of the tunnel. The new 10.5m wide tunnel will include 2 lanes for motor vehicles and 2 lanes for non-motorized vehicles.

The new Deo Ngang tunnel is expected to be completed in 2025. Once completed, the Deo Ngang tunnel will operate two tunnels in parallel.

The current Deo Ngang Tunnel has a main tunnel length of 495m and a system of approach roads of nearly 2.2km. The main tunnel is 11.5m wide, 7.5m high with 2 lanes for motor vehicles - each lane is 3.5m wide and 2 lanes for non-motorized vehicles.

The Ministry of Transport said that the total investment for the three projects is 1,400 billion VND, expected to be completed in 2025. The investment in the projects aims to gradually complete the route according to the plan, synchronize the scale, maximize the efficiency of investment in expanding National Highway 1, resolve bottlenecks on the route, reduce congestion, enhance traffic safety, promote socio-economic development, and ensure national defense and security.
