According to the elders in Thach Hoa commune (Tuyen Hoa district, Quang Binh province), the kapok tree has existed since the time the village was founded, about 500 years ago.
The ancient tree is a kapok tree with orange flowers located in Thiet Son village 3, Thach Hoa commune, Tuyen Hoa district (Quang Binh province) and is located in the Tuyen Hoa white-cheeked langur community conservation area.
During the anti-French period, at the base of the kapok tree, villagers built a lime kiln to provide materials for the construction of communal houses, pagodas, and temples for the whole region.
Strangely, although bombs and bullets plowed and storms continuously rained on this land, causing many ancient trees to fall, the kapok tree still stood firm, growing tall every day.
The kapok tree blooms orange flowers, creating a beautiful scene next to the green-covered rocky mountains in the Tuyen Hoa white-cheeked langur community reserve.
Next to the kapok tree is the shrine of Ba Son - the eldest daughter who contributed to the village, so the villagers respected her and built a shrine to her. Every year, when people come to worship at the shrine, they often visit the kapok tree.
The base of the ancient tree is a large cotton tree, about 10 people can hug it, many roots cling around it with strange shapes.
According to Dan Viet reporter, the kapok tree is about 30m high, with a canopy of about 20m wide. The base of the tree is wide, with many large roots clinging around it. Above, the tree has many large branches that shade an area.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa (in Thach Hoa commune, Tuyen Hoa district, Quang Binh province) said: "The cotton tree usually blooms from March to April every year. The orange flowers create a beautiful scene, so many people come to take pictures."
The kapok tree in Thiet Son village 3, Thach Hoa commune (Tuyen Hoa district, Quang Binh province) is the first tree in Quang Binh to be recognized as a Vietnam Heritage tree.
Speaking to Dan Viet Newspaper, Mr. Pham Van Bang - Chairman of the People's Committee of Thach Hoa Commune (Tuyen Hoa District, Quang Binh Province), said: "The locality has just held a ceremony to announce the decision to recognize Thach Hoa Commune as meeting new rural standards in 2023 and the decision to recognize the Kapok tree located in this commune as a Vietnamese heritage tree. From ancient times to the present, the Kapok tree has been a symbol of the homeland, a shade that protects and embraces the villagers of Thach Hoa, so it has always been loved and protected by the people."
Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Heritage Tree Council presented the decision of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment recognizing the Kapok tree in Thach Hoa commune as a Vietnam Heritage Tree to the local government.
"In the coming time, the locality will actively coordinate with specialized agencies to develop a plan to protect and preserve precious genetic resources, promote the value of heritage rice trees, and preserve the scientific and natural historical values for future generations," Mr. Pham Van Bang shared.
