Tho Quang fishing port (Son Tra district, Da Nang) is continuing to be invested in upgrading and building to become a type 1 fishing port. This place will become one of the 5 largest fishing centers in the country.

Officially put into operation in 2004, Tho Quang fishing port and lock (Son Tra district, Da Nang) is a safe shelter for boats and fishermen during bad weather.

This place welcomes hundreds of fishing boats from Da Nang and neighboring provinces to anchor.

These boats come ashore to sell fish, get fuel and food... after long fishing trips at sea.

Last July, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang signed a decision approving the Planning of the system of fishing ports and storm shelters for fishing vessels for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050. There will be 5 large synchronous fishing centers in the system of fishing ports, storm shelters for fishing vessels, infrastructure and seafood logistics services in sea areas across the country, including Tho Quang fishing port (Da Nang).

According to the plan, the fishing logistics center in Da Nang is expected to receive 300 ships arriving at the port every day, with about 100,000 tons of seafood passing through the port each year.

According to the Da Nang Statistics Office, in August, the city's seafood output was estimated at more than 3,500 tons, up 17.7% over the previous month and 14.6% over the same period in 2023. In the first 8 months of the year, Da Nang fishermen exploited more than 26,300 tons of seafood, up 1.1% over the same period in 2023. Of which, the output of marine seafood increased by 1%, the output of inland seafood increased by 32.2% over the same period.

Recently, the Tho Quang Fishing Port Upgrade and Expansion Investment Project (Phase 2) is being urgently implemented. The project is invested and operated by the Da Nang Agricultural and Rural Development Construction Investment Project Management Board, with a 4-year implementation period.

The items implemented include connecting berths 1 and 3 with berth 2 and the newly built berth. Along with that, upgrading and renovating Tho Quang seafood wholesale market, building an additional wastewater treatment plant, upgrading internal roads, rainwater collection and drainage systems...

At the project site, machinery and vehicles operate continuously and urgently.

This is a project to upgrade and renovate Tho Quang fishing port, which is more than 6 hectares wide, to meet the criteria of a type 1 fishing port, combined with a regional storm shelter and synchronous fishing logistics services.

Upon completion, it is expected that this fishing port will be able to accommodate 300 ships with a maximum capacity of 2,000 horsepower per day, with a cargo throughput of 100,000 tons per year. The total investment capital of the project is 250 billion VND.

Previously, the upgrading and expansion projects of Tho Quang Fishing Port (phase 1) were completed with a total investment of more than 217 billion VND, including the construction of covered wharf No. 2, a greenhouse connecting to the wholesale market, a seafood gathering and transportation area, etc.

Tho Quang seafood wholesale market is also being invested in and newly built with a scale of 3 floors, ensuring smooth business and trading activities. This is also one of 11 markets selected to deploy tourist markets in Da Nang until 2030.

Recently, the People's Committee of Da Nang City issued Decision 2052 approving the investment policy of the Project to renovate and upgrade the drainage system and wastewater collection in the area around Tho Quang Wharf with a total investment of more than 65 billion VND. The project will be implemented from 2024 to 2026 to ensure a collection rate of 2.5Qtb to Son Tra Wastewater Treatment Plant, limiting wastewater discharged directly into Tho Quang Wharf, causing environmental pollution and affecting people's lives.

According to the Planning of the system of fishing ports and storm shelters for fishing vessels in the period of 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, the country has 5 major fishing centers associated with the fishing grounds of the Gulf of Tonkin, the East Sea and Hoang Sa, the South Central Coast and Truong Sa, the Southeast, and the Southwest. Of which, Tho Quang Fishing Port and Boat Dock are planned to invest in building a large fishing center in Da Nang.
