Ms. Truong Thi Mai is concerned that the recent anti-corruption work has achieved many results, but many officials still violate the law, "is it because they are not afraid or because their greed is bottomless?"
Speaking at the national conference of the internal affairs sector and the activities of the provincial anti-corruption steering committee on January 10, Standing member of the Secretariat and Head of the Central Organization Commission Truong Thi Mai assessed that the work of Party building, rectification, and anti-corruption in the past two terms has achieved many important results. Vietnam's transparency index has improved significantly.
However, since the beginning of the 13th term (early 2021), 83 officials under central management have been disciplined, of which 53 were for previous violations and 24 were for violations during this term. In 2023, localities initiated 763 new cases with more than 2,000 defendants for corruption, double the number from last year. There are cases involving many levels, many sectors, many fields, both central and local officials.

According to the Standing Secretariat, corruption cases are basically linked to state officials and degenerate elements, causing great damage and loss of state and people's assets. Previously, violations were mainly related to land, but now they have expanded to the fields of bidding, use of public assets, securities, corporate bonds, banking, vehicle registration, etc.
Therefore, Ms. Mai suggested that agencies analyze the causes of violations by officials, and at the same time review and amend regulations in areas where violations occur to take corrective measures. "We must create a necessary legal framework so that officials will be afraid before stepping into it," she said.
Head of the Central Internal Affairs Commission Phan Dinh Trac requested that units coordinate to remove obstacles, speed up the investigation and handling of cases under the supervision of the Central Steering Committee and provincial levels. Violations by organizations and party members related to the Viet A, AIC, Van Thinh Phat and SCB bank cases need to be promptly resolved. Cases involving leaders and managers at all levels also need to be promptly resolved to prepare personnel for the next term's Party Congresses at all levels.
