Cambodia is hosting the 32nd SEA Games for the first time in 64 years. The 60,000-seat Morodok Techo National Stadium is the main venue, hosting the opening and closing ceremonies of the tournament.
Athletes participating in the SEA Games will get free tours of Angkor.
The 32nd SEA Games brings together 10,890 athletes, coaches and delegates from 11 Southeast Asian countries, lasting from May 5 to May 17.
"After the competition, if they want to visit Angkor Wat, we will give them completely free tickets," Prime Minister Hun Sen emphasized in a speech at the graduation ceremony of more than 3,000 university students in Phnom Penh, according to Xinhua News Agency.
He said he had instructed the Angkor Management Company, which is under the Apsara National Authority, the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, and the Ministry of Economy and Finance, not to charge athletes for admission. "Please note, I have extended the free entry to include members of the sports delegation, but fans still have to buy tickets. Cambodia may be a small country but it has a big heart," he added.
Located in the northwest of Siem Reap province, Angkor Archaeological Park covers an area of 401 km2 and was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1992. This is the most famous destination in Cambodia, attracting a large number of international tourists.
Angkor Archaeological Park has many large and small temples, but the most famous are Angkor Wat, Bayon, Ta Prohm, Ta Keo...
Cambodians are allowed to visit the temples built by their ancestors for free. In addition, foreign residents who have lived in Cambodia for more than 2 years will also enjoy a similar policy from 2022 to promote domestic tourism after the pandemic.
