"Challenges and difficulties forge a strong will"
Phan Sy Ke (20 years old, from Nghe An) is one of the excellent students of the Information Officer School sent to study abroad at the Agulhas Negras Military Academy (abbreviated as AMAN) in Brazil under the international training system.
Coming from the countryside, when he first set foot in the "Samba land" - a faraway country, Ke encountered many difficulties and challenges on the journey to realize his dream, from adapting to the harsh climate to the language difference. However, with a strong will, Ke always tried his best to realize his dream of becoming an officer with both virtue and talent, bringing glory to contribute to his homeland and country.
"For someone far away from home like me, I feel a bit sad that an important national holiday cannot be celebrated in my hometown. However, I am very proud that I and my Vietnamese comrades participated in activities to celebrate National Day on September 2 in Brazil.
We invited many international friends from countries such as Cameroon, Bolivia, Namibia,... to attend and gave them a better understanding of the meaning of the National Flag and the history of our country," Ke shared emotionally when asked about his feelings about celebrating National Day on September 2 abroad.
One of the biggest challenges Ke faces is the language barrier in everyday life. Ke confided: "Language is the key for me to communicate and integrate with everyone. I have only lived and studied in Brazil for two years, so I still do not fully understand the language and culture here. However, that is not too big of a problem. My Vietnamese comrades and I are trying very hard to improve our vocabulary to break down this barrier. At the same time, we are all very patient to experience and adapt to this new culture."
Not only did Ke have language difficulties, he also had to face very harsh training exercises. Ke shared: "The school I attended was among the top military schools in the world, so the training was very harsh. This required great effort, determination, will and perseverance. The obstacles I often encountered included outdoor marches with high hills and training exercises in the forest. We almost always had to be in a state of concentration and ready to fight."
With the fighting spirit of a soldier of Uncle Ho, Ke is determined and persistent in his journey of training in a foreign land. "Those difficulties and challenges not only do not discourage me, but also motivate my fighting spirit and determination to conquer. I understand that it takes pressure to create diamonds. This harsh environment will be a favorable place for me and my comrades to continue learning and training, becoming excellent soldiers, bringing glory to Vietnam", Ke confided.
The motivation to fuel the journey of a thousand miles
Whenever he thinks of his homeland, his family and friends are the great source of motivation that helps the young man continue to try. "There are days when we sleep less than 2 hours, making us both mentally and physically exhausted. However, just a phone call home is like a spiritual medicine, giving me more motivation and strength to continue my journey here. Because I know that I am the joy and pride of my family and homeland," Ke confided.
With pride and gratitude for the merits and sacrifices of his ancestors, Ke deeply feels the meaning of National Day September 2nd. On this sacred holiday, his patriotism rises strongly, along with deep national pride.
Ke shared: "I find National Day very meaningful. This is an opportunity for every Vietnamese citizen to look back at the achievements and challenges that the country has been and is experiencing. As a soldier, I always take pride in the Vietnamese flag and the Party flag. On the occasion of National Day, I proudly introduced to international friends the red flag with a yellow star, demonstrating the position of Vietnamese soldiers abroad."
Although the training environment is harsh, the team spirit here is deeply expressed. Ke proudly said: "I feel lucky to be with my friends here. Even though we are far from home, without the warm atmosphere of family and friends, we do not feel lost, because we are always united and love each other.
On the occasion of National Day September 2, my comrades and teammates and I cooked Vietnamese dishes, enjoyed them together and shared historical stories, as well as stories about the national leader Ho Chi Minh with foreign friends.
Ke added: "Although I will not be in Vietnam to celebrate National Day on September 2nd, I will try my best to achieve more. After finishing my course in Brazil, I will return to my homeland and devote all my abilities to the country. I believe that my homeland is not far away, my homeland is right in my heart."
