Facebook's Messenger app used to allow users to download audio files sent by others. However, this feature was removed in later updates, and there is no longer an option to directly download audio files on both mobile and desktop.
This is particularly annoying, as other file types like text or photos can still be downloaded just fine. Furthermore, any mp3 or most other audio file formats sent via Messenger are automatically converted into audio messages, making it difficult to transfer files between users. If you need to download a recording on Messenger for work or memory purposes, there is currently no direct way to do so.
Fortunately, with just a few simple steps, without downloading any additional tools, software or plug-ins, you can still download the recording files via Messenger. However, this method can only be done on a computer. The steps are as follows:
Step 1: Open the chat with the audio file you want to download in a separate Messenger window on your web browser.
Step 2: In the chat window, right-click on the recorded message location, click Check or similar option depending on the browser and operating system.
Step 3: In the right window, click the dropdown arrow, select Network.
The DevTools window then appears as below:
Step 4: Reload the current page, then a file named blob:... will appear. Right-click, click Open in new tab.
Final step: The file window will open, click on the three dots on the right, select Download.
