Qatar Tourism places great importance on culture, as it is one of the key pillars of the National Tourism Strategy 2030 launched 14 years ago, in line with the vision of leading the sustainable development of tourism in Qatar to become a global tourist destination proud of its national cultural roots.
Omar al-Jaber, head of the accommodation department at Qatar's Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, said the National Tourism Strategy has identified a number of programs to guide the stimulation of cultural tourism, including encouraging cultural festivals and events, and encouraging the development of local artistic talent.
These programs have translated into a series of heritage market development projects and cultural events that have contributed to the development of tourism in Qatar and increased visitor numbers.
Qatar Tourism is working to develop this strategy and oversee its implementation within its role as the authority responsible for planning, organizing and developing sustainable tourism in Qatar.
Omar al-Jaber noted four guiding principles that serve as a framework to support the tourism strategy, in line with national priorities, the first of which is local traditions and values through efforts to preserve the Arab-Islamic identity and moral codes of Qataris, while encouraging family values and social cohesion.
Mr Al Jaber explained that the National Tourism Strategy has identified a number of guiding programmes, including promoting festivals and cultural events as well as encouraging the development of local artistic talents.
These programs have promoted a series of heritage market development projects and cultural events to contribute to the development of the tourism industry in Qatar and increase the number of visitors.
Qatar Tourism is working to develop this strategy and oversee its implementation within its role as the authority responsible for planning, organizing and developing sustainable tourism in Qatar.
Qatar Tourism also works with all public and private sector partners to ensure the success of the strategy, make recommendations for corrective action where necessary, and ensure that all programmes and projects are designed to achieve specific objectives.
On "Qatar Now" will be the ideal guide to spending a holiday in Qatar with inspiring stories, practical information, travel itineraries, maps, expert advice and tourist facilities. All reflecting the culture of Qatar. Qatar Tourism issued the third edition of this guide in July last year.
Enhance cultural events
Mr. Omar Al Jaber said that Qatar Tourism is working to enrich the calendar of events and festivals in the state of Qatar to target all types of tourists.
In a similar context, Qatar Tourism emphasized that culture plays a key role in supporting the tourism industry, as it reflects the identity of a destination and offers visitors a unique and distinctive experience, including customs, traditions, cuisine, arts and historical sites that distinguish the country from others.
The ancient Qatari cultural imprint is one of the most prominent tourist attractions, showing that Qatar has successfully combined the authenticity of its cultural heritage with modernity in all its urban projects.
Mr. Al Jaber added that Qatar has many museums that reflect the authenticity of the country's rich heritage and culture, such as the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ), which reflects the country's history, present and future, as well as the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA), which includes one of the best collections of Islamic art in the world and true masterpieces that bring together three continents and represent the diversity found in Islamic heritage.
Qatar also has all the tourist attractions to suit different cultures, including nature reserves and archaeological castles such as the magnificent Al Zubarah Archaeological Site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a string of international resorts and hotels, famous public gardens and amusement parks, restaurants, traditional markets and large commercial complexes.
Resources
The Qatar National Tourism Strategy 2030 aims to increase the number of visitors, the contribution of tourism to the gross domestic product by 12%, increase domestic tourism spending at the destination by 3-4 times, increase the number of jobs in the tourism industry and make Qatar the fastest growing destination in the Middle East.
Speaking about the creative industries and their relationship with promoting tourism and how they can be developed to serve the tourism map in Qatar, Mr. Al Jaber affirmed that culture and creativity are considered one of the fastest growing industries in the world, which in particular has proven to be a sustainable development option based on unique and renewable resources through human creativity.
Therefore, Qatar Tourism seeks to support talent, especially the younger generation – a resource with the imagination and modern thinking that makes these industries attractive to all generations.
For example, on the music front, Qatari artist Dana Al Fardan, who has become one of the female icons in the modern Qatari music scene, has made a unique contribution to the Doha Watch and Jewellery Exhibition 2023 through her official musical composition “Azurit”.
In conclusion, the richness of Qatar's cultural attractions has contributed to strengthening the country's presence as a cultural tourism capital at the Arab and global levels, as these attractions have maintained heritage conservation and sustainability.
The diversity of cultural attractions in Qatar, particularly between marine life and desert environments, is the main reason why Doha and other cities in Qatar have become one of the most important tourist cities. All of this has helped tourists coming to Qatar have a special experience./.
