Not only non-specialized public schools, specialized high schools in Hanoi also have increased enrollment quotas in the 2025-2026 school year. The total enrollment quota for 4 specialized schools (Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Chu Van An High School for the Gifted, Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted, Son Tay High School for the Gifted) is 2,730 students (equivalent to 78 classes). Compared to the previous school year, the total enrollment quota for grade 10 of specialized schools increased by nearly 500 students, equivalent to 14 specialized classes.

Of which, Son Tay High School for the Gifted has increased its quota the most (210 students, equivalent to 6 specialized classes). Chu Van An High School for the Gifted has increased 4 specialized classes (about 140 students); Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted and Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted each have increased 2 specialized classes (about 70 students/school).

Mr. Luu Van Thong, Principal of Cau Giay Secondary School (Hanoi), said that to have the highest chance of passing the 10th grade entrance exam to a public school, the registration of wishes has a great influence. First, candidates need to refer to the benchmark scores of previous years to the school they plan or want to register for, then divide the average score of each subject to make the calculation accurate.

“The regulations on how to calculate the total score of the 10th grade exam each year can change, so we should convert to the average score of each subject needed to be admitted to a specific school. For example, with Yen Hoa High School, we divide it from 2021 to 2024, the average must be over 8.5 points/subject to be admitted. Then, students compare it with the scores of mock exams, surveys, or even do it themselves - self-grade at home and ask their direct teachers if they have achieved an average of over 8 points in the other rounds. If they only achieve an average of 6-7 points/subject or their performance in the exams is unstable, they must consider carefully when applying to schools in the group with high average scores,” said Mr. Thong.

According to the announcement of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, in 2025, the entrance exam for non-specialized public high schools in Hanoi will take place on June 7 and 8 with 3 subjects: Math, Literature and Foreign Language. Accordingly, candidates will register to take one of the following languages: English, French, German, Japanese, Korean... On the morning of June 7, candidates will take the Literature exam for 120 minutes; in the afternoon of the same day, they will take the Foreign Language exam for 60 minutes. On the morning of June 8, candidates will take the Math exam for 120 minutes.

The formula for calculating the admission score (ADS) for grade 10 in Hanoi this year is as follows:

DXT = Math score + Literature score + Foreign language score + priority score (if any) + incentive score (if any).
