Thanh Hoa mountainous schools overcome difficulties at the beginning of the school year

In addition to the main campus, Son Dien Kindergarten, Quan Son District has 3 separate areas. The special thing is that these separate areas are 5 to 8km from the school, the households are scattered on the mountain tops, along the river banks. To prepare for the new school year, teachers had to go to each village, each household to propagate, do popularization work, and bring children to school.

After the summer vacation, the teachers carefully prepared the school decoration at Son Dien Kindergarten, Quan Son district.

Ms. Pham Thi Thoa, the school's principal, said that because the house is far from the school, most of the students stay at the boarding school to ensure the number of students: "Son Dien Kindergarten has 137 students in the 2023-2024 school year, and has welcomed the children back to school. In the first days of the school year, in addition to studying, the teachers also organize labor, plant flowers, and practice performing arts to prepare for the opening of the new school year. The farthest Sa Man and Xuan Son villages both have separate areas, with 6 classes where the teachers live, so the children go all day, go to school and stay all day 100% of the time".

Starting from August 28, students in Thanh Hoa have returned to school. Although learning conditions are still difficult, the rate of students attending class after the first day of school shows encouraging signs. According to Ms. Ha Thi Hieu, Deputy Head of the Department of Education and Training of Quan Son district, the fact that students proactively attend class after the holiday is a good sign, showing a positive change in education in the highlands. That is thanks to the dedication of the teaching staff, the responsibility of the family and the cooperation of society: "In general, the facilities at remote schools are still difficult, but compared to previous school years, up to this point, they have been overcome a lot. Previously, there were many classrooms made of bamboo and thatch, but now the facilities are temporarily stable. However, for remote primary schools, the implementation of the new general education program is still difficult, related to teaching information technology and English, which have not been met".

The school is nestled in the middle of the mountains and forests.

In recent years, many schools in border districts of Thanh Hoa province such as Muong Lat, Quan Son, Quan Hoa, Lang Chanh... have been degraded, causing difficulties for teaching and learning. Therefore, Thanh Hoa province has invested hundreds of billions of VND to build new and renovate many schools in difficult areas, to help teachers and students feel secure in the educational environment.

Mr. Do Van Hoa, Deputy Head of the Department of Education and Training of Lang Chanh district, said that the district has 31 schools at all levels with more than 11,700 students. In addition to the lack of teachers, the implementation of the 2018 Education Program has faced many difficulties in terms of necessary conditions to implement the teaching and learning plan. And "efforts to overcome difficulties" are always the way teachers and students in difficult areas overcome: "Regarding the teaching staff from primary to secondary schools, there is a shortage of cultural teachers and special teachers. It is recommended that the Provincial People's Committee supplement human resources to meet the regulations".

Thanh Hoa province has 2,026 educational institutions. According to the plan issued by the Provincial People's Committee, the 2024-2025 school year will start on September 5. In recent years, thanks to the government's policy of caring for students, the rate of students dropping out of school in Thanh Hoa has decreased significantly. Therefore, on the first day of school on August 28, most students were present, ensuring readiness for the new school year.
