Unlimited combination of admissions
On March 21, the Ministry of Education and Training issued a circular amending and supplementing a number of articles of the university admission regulations, applicable from this year with new points.
According to the Ministry of Education and Training, 2025 is the first year that biology courses under the new general education program (General Education Program 2018) will take the high school graduation exam.
The Ministry of Education and Training has issued the Regulations on high school graduation exams from 2025, which increase the number of subjects students can choose. Therefore, to ensure the opportunity for students from different regions to be admitted, the Regulations remove the requirement for training programs, each major and each program has a maximum of 4 admission combinations; there is no limit on the number of admission combinations.
However, in order to ensure the quality and knowledge foundation necessary for university study, the Regulation stipulates that the subject combination used for admission includes at least 3 suitable subjects, including Mathematics or Literature with a weighted score of not less than 25%. From 2026, the common subjects of the combination must contribute at least 50% of the weighted score.
Candidates do not need to choose a method code, combination code... they just need to clearly identify the program, major, training group and training institution they want to study to decide to register. The general enrollment support system of the Ministry of Education and Training will use the method with the highest result of the candidate for admission consideration.
Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son said that changing the admission combination is not a big problem, because this year's admission regulations will be flexible. Candidates' job is to study according to their abilities and strengths, while schools will enroll students according to their requirements, and the software system will select the best information for candidates.
Deputy Minister Son said that higher education institutions will have to enroll students according to the appropriate combination of training majors and requirements. The Ministry of Education and Training also sets out specific requirements for each school and training major.
Accordingly, for each major, schools will choose the admission method as well as the combination of subjects for the entrance exam that is suitable for the requirements of that major. How to ensure that qualified candidates can choose to study and succeed in this program.
The Ministry of Education and Training is expected to have specific regulations. For example, for each major, there will be common parts between the admission combinations. The common parts are the mandatory requirements that candidates must have to study the program. The decision on which subjects to choose is the right of the schools to ensure autonomy.
