(CLO) Half of the world's 50 most visited English-language news sites have increased traffic year-on-year, but almost all are seeing traffic decline month-on-month.
The only sites that increased traffic month-over-month were CBS News (102.3 million visits, up 18% month-over-month) and India.com (140.54 million visits, up 42%).
Sites that saw month-over-month declines in September included major US news sites NBC News (106.6 million visits, down 2.4% month-over-month), the New York Times (517.3 million visits, down 3.6%) and CNN (571.2 million visits, down 5.9%).

Last month, English-language news sites outside India saw a sharp decline after a tumultuous July that saw the opening of the Paris Olympics, President Joe Biden abandoning his re-election bid and an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. However, Indian sites generally performed well, with traffic increasing from July or remaining stable.
This month, India.com, OneIndia.com and IndianExpress.com were among the 10 sites with the highest growth (or the smallest decline) month-on-month, but some Indian sites also saw the fastest declines, including The Hindu newspaper (72.2 million, down 17.6% month-on-month), LiveMint.com (69.1 million, down 17%) and NDTV (102.6 million, down 25.8%).
Canada's CBC saw the biggest monthly decline in the top 50 (60.3 million visits in September, down 37.9% from August), and British newspapers The Sun (60.2 million visits, down 23.3%), The Telegraph (109.1 million visits, down 19.8%), Daily Express (59.4 million visits, down 16.2%) and Daily Mirror (59.5 million visits, also down 16.2%) were among the biggest decliners.
Meanwhile, Newsweek (109 million visits, up 108.3%) was once again the fastest growing newspaper year-on-year, followed by CBS, other US news sites ABC News (69.4 million visits, up 51.8% year-on-year) and India.com.
Among the world's 10 most visited English-language news sites, none increased their web traffic month-on-month.
