Through the Havana Declaration
The leaders unanimously adopted the Havana Declaration on "Current Development Challenges: The Role of Science, Technology and Innovation" ,
reach common understanding and consensus on some important issues.
Specifically, it calls for the establishment of a new world economic order, strengthens the voice of Southern countries, and promotes reforms of the global economic and financial governance system to be more inclusive, effective, and comprehensive.
The G77 countries and China emphasized the important role of science, technology and innovation as both a driving force and a catalyst for inclusive growth, addressing the challenges of climate change and fully implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Promote an open and fair environment for science and technology development, prioritize technology transfer to developing countries, focus on digital cooperation, and narrow the digital gap.
The Havana Declaration also affirmed the need to strengthen North-South cooperation in finance for development; promote South-South cooperation, tripartite models and new cooperation mechanisms in the fields of science, technology and innovation.
The conference unanimously supported the initiative of the Cuban Presidency to make September 16 of each year the Day of Science, Technology and Innovation of Southern Countries.

Creating more momentum to promote cooperation among developing countries
As a founding member, Vietnam has actively participated and contributed responsibly to the G77 agenda, contributing to solving regional and international issues and raising the voice of developing countries.
Speaking at this Summit, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha congratulated and highly appreciated the role and responsible contribution of the brotherly country of Cuba as Chair of the G77 Group and China in 2023, contributing to making the Group's agenda more substantive and closely following the development requirements of the Southern countries. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the message that science, technology and innovation are the key to solving global challenges, the "vaccine" for global issues is international cooperation, solidarity and science and technology.
Based on Vietnam's development experience and practices, the Deputy Prime Minister proposed important solutions to promote the building of foundations for scientific, technological and innovation cooperation among Southern countries, aiming to successfully implement sustainable development goals.

The first G77 and China Summit was assessed to have influence on developing countries, attracting the participation of many leaders of countries and international organizations, showing the increasing interest of developing countries in Southern cooperation mechanisms, including the G77; contributing to creating more momentum to promote cooperation between developing countries, especially in science, technology and innovation in the current new global context.
The Cuban Presidency has successfully and thoughtfully organized the Conference, contributing to enhancing its international position, mobilizing solidarity and calling for the support of Southern countries in international issues. The Conference's agenda will contribute to the High-level Week of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly taking place from September 19-26, 2023 in New York.
