The speakers emphasized this at a seminar on ensuring safety and health at work in agricultural and coffee production organized by the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance in coordination with the International Labor Organization (ILO) Office in Vietnam and the Department of Crop Production (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) in Da Nang on November 25.

Deputy Director of the Institute of Workers and Trade Unions (Vietnam General Confederation of Labor) Pham Thi Thu Lan said that in the context of climate change making working conditions more severe, especially for workers in agriculture, businesses and cooperatives need to pay attention to safety equipment and working conditions for workers to ensure safety and health, especially the reproductive health of female workers.
At the same time, pay attention to the issue of decent work, which is central to sustainable development, including wages or income levels, social insurance, the right to dialogue and collective bargaining, the right to receive training on occupational safety and health before work, etc.
Ms. Pham Thi Thu Lan proposed establishing trade unions in cooperatives, building a culture of accident prevention and health; having a person in charge of occupational safety and hygiene in cooperatives; building risk assessments before starting work; needing policies related to minimum income for self-employed workers, especially in agriculture...
Mr. Duong Tuan Cuong, Deputy Head of the Cooperative Policy and Development Department, Vietnam Cooperative Alliance, said that currently, the number of cooperatives in the agricultural sector nationwide accounts for 70% of the total number of cooperatives.
Except for large and medium-sized cooperatives, the majority of the remaining are small and micro-sized.
