(Dan Tri) - Many businesses said they have made green transitions early to reduce costs as well as reduce carbon emissions into the environment.
By 2030, the transport industry is expected to emit 90 million tons of CO2.
On the afternoon of February 12, the Vietnam Logistics Services Association (VLA) held a workshop with the theme Green Logistics - Sustainable Destination.
In his opening speech, Mr. Dao Trong Khoa, Chairman of VLA, said that climate change is one of the biggest global challenges in the 21st century. In particular, the logistics industry alone is emitting a large amount of carbon - CO2, estimated at 7-8%.
Therefore, similar to the requirements for other economic sectors, developing green logistics and reducing emissions is becoming an important component of any supply chain in the context of a world of geopolitical instability.

Along with that, there is an increasing demand for "greening" to reduce emissions from countries around the world, including Vietnam, when implementing the commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, Mr. Khoa shared.
The association representative stated that Vietnam's logistics still depends heavily on roads and has uneven development among transport modes. 75% of goods are still transported by road, while 12% are transported by sea and only 2% are transported by rail.
According to the World Bank (WB), on average, each year, transportation activities in Vietnam emit more than 50 million tons of CO2, of which road transport accounts for 85% of emissions.
These emissions are forecast to increase by an average of 6-7% per year, while Vietnam's greenhouse gas emissions are estimated to be much higher than those of developed and developing countries in the world. It is forecasted that CO2 emissions from the transport sector will reach 90 million tons by 2030.
In addition to large emissions, the Vietnamese logistics industry is also affected by increasingly stringent policies, regulations and international integration requirements. New-generation trade agreements require Vietnamese enterprises to improve standards and reduce carbon footprints in logistics activities to move towards sustainable development of the supply chain.
"Therefore, Vietnamese logistics enterprises need to take advantage of the advantages, turn the urgent need for greening into a driving force, improve competitiveness, enhance brand image, and move towards more sustainable and comprehensive development," the VLA chairman emphasized.
What are businesses doing to reduce emissions?
According to Mr. Khoa, businesses must update new trends and standards of the world, aiming towards energy conversion with means of using energy-saving, renewable energy, and green energy. At the same time, units also need to optimize operating costs, digitize operations, and improve performance and efficiency in providing logistics services.
From the perspective of an air transport enterprise, Mr. Do Xuan Quang, Vice President of VLA; Deputy General Director of VietJet Aviation Joint Stock Company, emphasized that enterprises need to focus on comprehensive management of the supply chain in a green direction. These activities include transportation management, warehousing, and logistics data, with the goal of minimizing transportation and delivery time.
Increasing the reuse of products, packaging, materials... to create a comprehensive green supply chain will help businesses improve production and operation efficiency, while building a green and sustainable ecosystem.
Specifically, 10 years ago, VietJet was interested in green transformation and digital transformation. Through the action of choosing a new generation fleet to using new energy (sustainable aviation fuel - Sustainable Aviation Fuel - SAF) to save 20% of fuel compared to conventional.

SAF - renewable and sustainably sourced raw materials such as used cooking oil, agricultural by-products, wood biomass, municipal waste… this sustainable aviation fuel can help cut carbon emissions by up to 80% compared to traditional fuels.
In addition, the company also digitizes the entire process through a system of applications on smart devices and websites, minimizing paperwork in operations.
From the perspective of a freight forwarding company, Ms. Pham Thi Tinh, Commercial Director of Hanoi branch, Interlog International Logistics Joint Stock Company, said that, as a link in the global supply chain, transportation businesses need to change to adapt, and a green transformation strategy needs to be oriented.
In the green transformation implementation model, the company focuses on three main pillars, the first is employee awareness, the second is energy conversion and the third is having optimal solutions to cut costs.
According to Ms. Tinh, since the end of 2022, Interlog has focused on internal training from leaders to employees. In addition, the company organizes seminars and workshops to raise awareness about green transformation.
Not out of the trend, businesses also promote digital transformation applications to reduce paperwork in operations.
Not only internally, the company also offers suggestions and solutions to help reduce carbon emissions for customers through consulting on routes and delivery vehicles.
