Localities urgently review and vaccinate against measles

(Chinhphu.vn) – Localities are urgently reviewing the subjects and quantity of measles vaccines given to children, to prevent measles outbreaks in the coming time.

The Da Nang Department of Health said that since the beginning of the year, the city has recorded 2,218 suspected measles cases, an increase of 237 times compared to the same period in 2024. All suspected measles cases have been treated and responded to epidemic prevention and control measures as a positive case of measles.

Implementing the Prime Minister's Official Dispatch No. 23/CD-TTg on accelerating measles vaccination, the Department of Health has issued an official dispatch requesting medical units in the area to strictly implement measures for screening, classification, infection control, infection prevention, investigation, monitoring, and risk assessment; resolutely implementing the central and city's instructions on admission, treatment, prevention, and control of measles at medical examination and treatment facilities and in the community.

Mr. Vo Thu Tung, Deputy Director of the Department of Health of Da Nang City, said that the Department of Health requested the City Center for Disease Control to coordinate with the medical centers of districts to urgently review the subjects, propose the demand for the number of measles vaccines to be injected for children 6-9 months old, the number of measles vaccines to be injected for children 1-10 years old to organize a vaccination campaign to prevent and control measles in the area.

Based on the screening of subjects and the timely provision of vaccines to localities to effectively implement the Expanded Immunization Program, the measles vaccination campaign, catch-up vaccination, and catch-up vaccination for subjects who have not been vaccinated or have not been fully vaccinated in communes and wards. Continue to urgently assess the measles situation to organize a measles vaccination campaign to prevent measles outbreaks in the future.

District health centers closely coordinate with the education sector to strengthen screening and management of vaccination subjects; not to miss any subjects, especially in areas at risk of outbreaks, with the spirit of "going to every alley, knocking on every door, screening every subject"; immediately notify medical facilities when detecting suspected measles cases for timely isolation and treatment.

Medical examination and treatment facilities shall base on the epidemic situation, the situation of admission and treatment of measles and suspected measles cases to proactively decide to regulate the number of hospital beds, ensure the area and number of beds for patient treatment, and prevent cross-infection of measles during admission and treatment at medical examination and treatment facilities. Strictly screen, classify, diagnose, admit and treat patients with measles and suspected measles rash fever.

In Quang Binh , the provincial Center for Disease Control (CDC) has issued a document requesting local health centers to urgently review subjects aged 6-9 months, 1-10 years old and register vaccine needs; at the same time, advise on a plan to deploy a measles vaccination campaign in the whole province in March according to the request of the Prime Minister's telegram.

On March 17, the CDC of Quang Binh province issued an official dispatch requesting localities to step up communication on measles prevention and control, raise public awareness about measles as well as the importance of measles vaccination, in order to achieve community immunity.

From the beginning of 2025 to now, the whole Quang Binh province has recorded 75 cases of rash fever suspected of measles (of which, 53 cases tested positive for measles virus).

The People's Committee of Binh Dinh province has just issued a document requesting the provincial Department of Health to assess the situation of measles outbreaks in order to plan a measles vaccination campaign to prevent future outbreaks in the area; ensure sufficient human resources, materials, equipment, and vaccines to speed up the vaccination progress, and complete it in March.

At the same time, strengthen information and propaganda to mobilize people, especially in remote areas, ethnic minority areas to proactively implement measures to prevent and control measles and have children fully vaccinated on schedule. Strengthen propaganda on measures to prevent and control measles.

In Binh Dinh, from the beginning of the year to March 14, out of 249 cases of rash fever suspected of measles, 75 cases were confirmed positive for measles, 90 cases are awaiting test results.
