Cranes transferred from Thailand recover well at Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden

DTO - On the morning of April 13, at Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden, where 6 cranes transferred to Vietnam from Nakhon Raschasima Zoo (Thailand) are being quarantined, experts from Thailand, Vietnam and the International Crane Association discussed and assessed the health status of the cranes after 3 days of quarantine.

Experts from Thailand, Vietnam and the International Crane Association met at the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden on the morning of April 13 and connected online to the Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee to report on the crane situation.

The experts' general conclusion is that the six cranes have recovered well after the long journey and are eligible to be transferred to Tram Chim National Park as planned on April 19, 2025.

Six cranes were brought to Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden on the night of April 10, after 16 hours of travel by road and air, in hot and humid weather conditions, without food or water. However, all six individuals were safe, without any injuries, not even scratches, and without loss of strength.

Crane care in quarantine area

By the morning of April 13, observations showed that the 6 cranes were eating and moving normally. The amount of food consumed increased daily. In addition to the mixed food, the cranes were also provided with small fish and rice worms.

This is the first time that individual cranes have been transported for a long time, in difficult weather conditions, and with satisfactory results. This is the result of very detailed and careful preparation by experts from Thailand, Vietnam and the International Crane Association, combined with the determination of Dong Thap province in the restoration, conservation and development of Red-crowned Cranes.
