What is the hibiscus plant?
Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa) is a valuable medicinal plant originating from West Africa. Roselle improves digestive function, lowers blood pressure, treats coughs, cools the body, detoxifies, and regulates blood glucose.
Roselle is an annual plant, 1.5-2m tall. It branches at the base, has a pale reddish-purple stem, and simple leaves with an oval shape and small serrated edges.
The flowers grow in the leaf axils, are sessile, and are yellowish-pink or purplish-red. The fruit is a capsule, egg-shaped.
The entire hibiscus plant can be used as a medicinal herb to help treat hypertension and obesity.
