Whale longer than 10m appeared near Ganh Da Dia scenic spot

On August 3, Mr. Ngo Van Duy (20 years old, residing in Tuy An district, Phu Yen province) shared a short clip of two whales opening their mouths to catch prey, which he filmed himself, on social media, attracting the attention of many people.

According to Mr. Duy, at around 6am the same day, when the young man's boat was moving to catch seafood, he accidentally discovered two whales tumbling and hunting in the sea area about 2km from the scenic Ganh Da Dia (An Ninh Dong commune, Tuy An district).

Mr. Duy estimated that each whale was more than 10 meters long.

"The two whales took turns eating the bait for about 5 minutes and then dived deep into the sea," said Mr. Duy.

A representative of An Hai Border Guard Station (Border Guard of Phu Yen Province) said that after receiving reports of whales appearing in the sea near Ganh Da Dia, the unit sent forces to the scene to warn people not to get too close to the whales, as well as to impact the habitat of this species of fish.

Previously in July, Tuy An district also recorded 2 whales appearing in the coastal waters of this locality.

Mr. Dao Quang Minh, Head of the Phu Yen Fisheries Sub-Department, commented that the recent appearance of whales in the seas of Phu Yen is a good thing.

"When whales appear in an area of ​​the sea, that place has a very good environment and abundant food resources," Mr. Minh shared.

Ganh Da Dia is located in An Ninh Dong commune, Tuy An district, Phu Yen province.

This site is considered a unique natural wonder in Vietnam with a unique shape, consisting of stone columns with hexagonal cross-sections, stacked on top of each other like stacks of plates or a giant honeycomb.

According to research, Ganh Da Dia was formed by volcanic activity in this area about 2 million to 5 million years ago.

In 2021, Ganh Da Dia landscape was recognized as a special national monument.
