The average export price of coffee in the first 8 months of 2025 is estimated at 5,580.1 USD/ton, an increase of 46.4% over the same period in 2024. Germany, Italy and Spain are the three largest coffee consuming markets of Vietnam, accounting for market shares of 14.5%, 7.5% and 7.4% respectively. Compared to the same period last year, the value of coffee exports in the first 7 months of 2025 to the German market increased by 2 times, to the Italian market by 51.5%, and to the Spanish market by 60.8%. Among the 15 largest export markets, the value of coffee exports increased the most in the Mexican market with an increase of 91.2 times and the lowest in the Chinese market with an increase of 11.7%.

In August 2025, the global coffee market recovered, driven by technical buying and short-term profit-taking. The market also received positive factors from limited global coffee supplies due to frost-affected Brazilian coffee harvest, reduced Brazilian coffee exports and the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) reporting a decrease in inventories.

The price of Robusta coffee futures for September 2025 on the Intercontinental Exchange in Europe (ICE/EU) closed on August 26 at 4,886 USD/ton, up 1,556 USD/ton, equivalent to 47% compared to the first trading session of the month.

The price of Arabica coffee futures for September 2025 on the Intercontinental Exchange in the US (ICE/US) closed on July 26 at 384.05 US cents/lb, up 100 US cents/lb, equivalent to 35% compared to the first trading session of the month.

Ahead of schedule, Vietnamese coffee enters a period of high value growth

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in terms of production scale, the country currently has about 732,000 hectares of coffee, with an average yield of 2.9 tons/ha. Some replanting models yield 4-5 tons/ha. Total output in 2024 is estimated at approximately 2 million tons, mainly Robusta.

In just 8 months of 2025, businesses exported 1.2 million tons of coffee, earning 6.42 billion USD - a record high in the history of the industry. This result not only affirms the increasingly solid position of Vietnamese coffee in the international market, but also shows that the industry has soon exceeded the target of 6 billion USD in exports by 2030, 5 years ahead of schedule.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Manh, Deputy Director of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), informed that the Project on developing key industrial crops by 2030 was issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (now the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) in January 2024. According to the project, there are 6 key industrial crops, including coffee. The general goal by 2030 is for this group of plants to achieve an export turnover of 14 - 16 billion USD, not separated by each plant.

In the past two years, Vietnam's coffee exports have grown strongly. Specifically, in 2023, coffee exports reached 5.6 billion USD; from 2024 to now, they have reached 6.5 billion USD. Notably, export output decreased but value increased, reflecting the right direction of developing high-quality coffee. Currently, recognized coffee varieties must achieve a quality assessment score (cupping score) of 80 points or higher; many varieties have achieved 81-82 points. Thanks to that, although output has decreased, the added value is still high.

According to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien, in the context of many difficulties in the domestic and international economic situation, the agricultural sector still achieved positive results, with the whole sector's export growth of 12%, reaching 45.37 billion USD; trade surplus of 13.5 billion USD, up 10.2%. From now until the end of the year, the entire agricultural sector will focus on promoting the achieved results, overcoming difficulties, promptly handling problems to complete the 2025 target, and at the same time creating a foundation for the period up to 2030.

Regarding the coffee industry, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien emphasized that he will continue to promote the export of high-end specialty coffee, deep-processed products, value-added products and instant coffee, and promote the Robusta coffee segment. In addition, along with maintaining the traditional market, he will continue to expand potential markets.

The global coffee market is expected to hover around a production level of around 168 million 60kg bags in 2024, with total demand also expected to be around this level, resulting in a supply-demand balance. The market is led by major producers such as Brazil and Vietnam and is driven by high consumption demand in markets such as the EU, the US and China.

The coffee market size is estimated to reach USD 132.13 billion by 2024 and is expected to reach USD 166.39 billion by 2029, growing at a CAGR of 4.72% during the forecast period (2024-2029) (as per mordorintelligence). The coffee market is growing due to the growing culture of consuming coffee as a refreshing drink among the youth, especially in India, Italy, the United States, China, Japan, etc. On the other hand, increasing disposable income along with urbanization is the major factor contributing to the growth of the coffee market.

With impressive growth momentum, along with the orientation of improving quality and expanding the market, the Vietnamese coffee industry is not only stopping at the target of turnover, but also aiming to build a strong brand, increase the value of deep processing, affirming its position on the world coffee map. This will be an important foundation for Vietnamese coffee to conquer new heights in the coming period.

To achieve and realize the goal of bringing the coffee industry to a turnover of 8-10 billion USD, experts affirmed that it requires support from many sides: the Ministry of Industry and Trade to lead trade promotion and market expansion; local authorities to build sustainable raw material areas; and pioneering enterprises to innovate technology and improve product quality.
