After the Dong Khoi Uprising in 1960, the revolutionary movement in the South developed strongly, so the demand for weapons to serve the battlefield was very large, but the land transportation routes encountered many difficulties. On October 23, 1961, the Party Central Committee and President Ho Chi Minh decided to establish Group 759 with the task of researching and opening a strategic North-South military transportation route by sea to transport cadres, soldiers and weapons to support the revolution in the South.

Based on the above policy, the Central Office for Southern Vietnam instructed the Southern provinces to organize boats to cross the sea to the North to report the situation and receive weapons to serve the resistance. After a period of checking and exploring the terrain, Ben Vam Lung (Ngoc Hien district, Ca Mau province) was determined to be the most favorable place to receive weapons.

Vam Lung Wharf is associated with Group 962, a unit tasked with protecting the safety of trains, secretly receiving, hiding weapons and transporting them to the liberation army. Of the 124 trains received by Group 962, the Ca Mau cluster wharves received 76/124. Vam Lung Wharf alone received 68 trains with more than 4,300 tons of weapons and ammunition. The Ho Chi Minh Sea Trail contributed significantly to the overall victory of the nation's resistance war against the US.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Luan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province, said that the Ho Chi Minh Sea Trail Relic at Ben Vam Lung is the first special national relic in the locality. This relic has great significance in educating the young generation about patriotism as well as giving strength to the provincial Party Committee to continue striving to successfully complete the tasks set out in 2025 and the following years.
“I am very moved by the values of the Ho Chi Minh Sea Trail in general and at Ben Vam Lung in particular. The success of the Ho Chi Minh Sea Trail is thanks to the people as the foundation, along with the intelligence, bravery and willingness to sacrifice for the Fatherland of previous generations...”, the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province shared.
