The rural appearance of Giao Thuy district changes every day.

In 2018, Giao Thuy was recognized by the Prime Minister as a district meeting the NTM standards. Determining that "Building a NTM is a regular, continuous, and never-ending task", the Party Committee, government, and people in the district continue to improve the quality of NTM criteria according to the national criteria set for the period 2021 - 2025.

With the participation of the entire political system, the Advanced New Rural Construction Program of Giao Thuy district has achieved many outstanding results.

Standing Vice Chairman of Giao Thuy District People's Committee Nguyen Tien Tung informed that up to now, the whole district has 16 communes meeting advanced NTM standards, 14 communes meeting model NTM standards, 157/195 hamlets and residential groups meeting model NTM standards...

With the motto "People need - People know - People discuss - People do - People supervise - People enjoy" and "People do, State supports", many economic - social infrastructures in the district have been interested, invested synchronously, with focus. Therefore, the appearance of the countryside has been renewed, increasingly spacious, clean, beautiful, the material and spiritual life of the people has been improved.

Agricultural production has developed stably and sustainably. The production value per hectare of cultivated land reached 138.57 million VND, an increase of 25 million VND compared to 2017.

The OCOP program has been strongly implemented, achieved good results and had a strong influence. Up to now, the whole district has 105 OCOP products ranked from 3 stars or higher, of which 9 products have achieved 4 stars.

Along with that, industrial and handicraft production developed rapidly, creating jobs and stable income for local people. Thanks to that, people's lives were improved, and average income per capita increased sharply compared to the early period of implementing NTM.

"By the end of 2023, the average income per capita of Giao Thuy district will reach 84.46 million VND/person/year, more than 4 times higher than in 2010," Mr. Nguyen Tien Tung happily said.

According to Mr. Tung, in 2023, the poverty rate of Giao Thuy district will be 1.07%; the near-poor rate will be 3.01%. The rate of people participating in health insurance by 2023 will reach 95.80%, an increase of 9.86% compared to 2017.

By July 2024, the rate of households using clean water from centralized water supply works will reach over 94%. The rate of domestic solid waste collected and treated according to regulations will increase by 6% compared to 2017.

The lighting system is upgraded with cast poles, separate tube poles, LED lights, underground wires on the roads; 180/182 hamlets are recognized as cultural hamlets, the rate of families achieving the title of cultural family is 94%...

Promoting advantages from agricultural production

As a coastal district, Giao Thuy has many advantages in developing the agricultural sector. In recent times, the district has identified 3 food crops including rice, peanuts, potatoes and 2 aquatic products such as clams and shrimp as the main agricultural products of the district.

To increase economic value, Giao Thuy promotes the transformation of agricultural production methods from self-sufficiency to developing commodity production, applying science and technology in production.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Tung, Permanent Vice Chairman of Giao Thuy District People's Committee shared that in agriculture, the trend of internal sectoral transformation basically ensures the goal of restructuring, promoting the potential and strengths of each field, especially the advantage of aquaculture development.

The district has also formed a number of concentrated agricultural commodity production areas applying high technology; developed production organization forms in the direction of linking along the value chain, ensuring food hygiene and safety.

In addition, effectively implement policies to support agricultural and rural development to mobilize all social resources to invest in production development, complete the goal of restructuring agriculture towards increasing added value and sustainable development associated with the new rural construction program...

In addition, strengthening trade promotion, building product brands to create links in production, processing, preservation and consumption of products with high economic value and development potential.

According to this person, every year, the district's cultivated area remains over 9,000 hectares; the total food output (grain crops) always reaches over 93,000 tons. Many areas of low-efficiency rice land are converted to annual and perennial crops and to the rice-fish model, which brings 1.5 - 3 times higher efficiency than rice cultivation.

In particular, livestock and poultry farming has developed steadily, with a strong shift from household farming to concentrated farm farming, applying technical advances to production.

Aquaculture focuses on developing aquaculture in planned areas, in the direction of intensive farming, applying high technology; gradually reducing the output structure and means of exploiting coastal aquatic products, focusing on developing marine aquaculture and key farming objects with high economic value.

"The locality continues to implement the mechanisms and policies of the province and district on supporting the development of agriculture, forestry and fishery, contributing to promoting agricultural development in the district in a concentrated, sustainable and highly economically efficient direction," Mr. Tung emphasized.

On August 2, 2024, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang signed Decision No. 761/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister recognizing Giao Thuy district as meeting advanced NTM standards in 2023.
