Donald Trump was attacked while campaigning in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13.

In a statement released hours after the incident, Mr. Trump - the Republican candidate in this year's election - emphasized that this is the time when the country and the American people "need to show unity, strength, steadfastness and fearlessness".

He confirmed that he will attend and deliver a speech to the American people at the Republican National Convention, scheduled to open on July 15 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

In addition, Mr. Trump and President Joe Biden also had a phone call on the evening of July 13, US East Coast time. According to an unnamed official, the phone call between the two candidates of the two parties was "nice, brief and respectful."

Meanwhile, Politico newspaper quoted a source saying that Mr. Trump's election campaign is increasing armed security at locations and asking staff in Washington and West Palm Beach to stay away from the office on July 14.

ABC News reports that security plans for the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee will be reviewed following the attack on Mr. Trump.

On the same afternoon, Reuters reported that US President Joe Biden condemned the assassination and ordered a security review at the campaign event where Trump was injured amid questions about how the suspect could have approached the assassination location.

"Unity is the most elusive goal, but nothing is more important than that right now," the leader added. "We will argue and we will disagree. That will not change. But we will not forget that we are Americans."

Referring to the call with Mr. Trump, the current US President said that this was a short but smooth conversation, and expressed his relief that his predecessor was "stable and recovering".

Also according to Reuters news agency, the team in charge of US President Joe Biden's re-election campaign quickly changed its strategy after the above incident, and stopped attacking Mr. Trump to focus on the message of unity.

Within hours of the assassination, Mr. Biden’s campaign pulled television ads and suspended other political communications, including ads highlighting Mr. Trump’s May criminal conviction in a New York state court involving a porn star.

Rather than attacking Trump in the coming days, the White House and Biden’s campaign will cite the president’s history of condemning all political violence, including his harsh criticism of the “disorder” caused by campus protests over the Gaza-Israel conflict, according to the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
