In the first leg of the semi-final, Vietnam has the advantage, but...
Despite holding a 2-0 lead from the first leg of the semi-final, coach Kim Sang-sik still considered the score unsafe. "We won 2-0 in the first leg and have one foot in the final. However, a 2-0 lead is still dangerous. The Vietnamese team understands that the second leg of the semi-final will not be easy, so we need to prepare and anticipate all possible scenarios. We will do our best playing at home," coach Kim Sang-sik shared.

Can coach Ogura spring a surprise on coach Kim Sang-sik in the second leg?
However, Mr. Kim affirmed that playing at home would be a key factor for the Vietnamese team to defeat Singapore: "We have the support of the fans, so we will fight as we have to overcome difficulties. We are a team and we will try our best in this match."
Commenting on the opponent, the South Korean coach said that the Singapore team plays long balls very well, so he wants the Vietnamese team to defend well in long-ball situations. "We have analyzed to understand Singapore's attacking style. Hopefully, the players will be able to neutralize them. They play long balls very well, so the players need to create pressure in Singapore's half of the field. In the return match, I will make adjustments to make the Vietnamese team stronger," Coach Kim Sang-sik concluded.
Meanwhile, coach Ogura said he couldn't estimate what percentage chance his team had of surprising the Vietnamese team. "I can only say that Singapore will try to have a good game," Ogura said.
Fans waited through the night in the freezing cold to buy tickets for the second leg of the Vietnam - Singapore semi-final.
In the first leg, the Singapore team surprisingly employed an overwhelming attacking style, possessing the ball 67% of the time compared to Vietnam's 33%. However, two mistakes in the final minutes of added time cost them dearly. Striker Nguyen Xuan Son was directly involved in both situations. Nevertheless, Coach Ogura didn't prioritize neutralizing Xuan Son in the second leg: "In the last match, Xuan Son only had a few clear chances. Overall, I don't emphasize the idea of the whole team focusing solely on one opposing player, because the Vietnamese team has many other dangerous attacking players."
According to the rules of the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF), the away goals rule does not apply to the two semi-final matches of the 2024 AFF Cup. The team that scores more goals after two legs wins overall. Therefore, to reach the final, Singapore must win by a margin of 3 goals in the second leg, or by a margin of 2 goals to equalize the aggregate score, and then wait for an opportunity in extra time.
