Việt NamViệt Nam30/09/2024

On the morning of September 29th, CP Livestock Corporation of Vietnam, in collaboration with the Vietnam Food Bank Network and the Global Food Bank Network, launched the "Stop Food Waste" campaign and introduced a guide recommending food donations in Vietnam, on the occasion of International Food Loss Awareness Day (September 29th). The "Stop Food Waste" campaign is a central and prominent initiative within the overall "Food For Change 2024" campaign series, implemented from September to October 16th across all Food Bank networks in Vietnam. The program aims to raise public awareness about the reality of food waste and encourage people to change their consumption habits to save and minimize food waste.
Stop Food Waste campaign
The Stop Food Waste campaign aims to minimize food waste in the community, contribute to environmental protection and support food security, raise awareness about food waste, and encourage action from individuals, businesses, and organizations to work together.
The local Food Bank network has mobilized and promoted the participation of all families, businesses, restaurants, supermarkets, food distributors, and many organizations to work together through simple actions: smart shopping, proper food preservation, and creative ways to utilize leftover food and recycle organic food waste to protect the environment. Activities initiated and implemented by the Vietnam Food Bank Network aim to reduce food waste and protect the environment: collecting usable food from farms and wholesale markets; recovering food from coffee and pastry chains, and donating it to homeless and disadvantaged people, as well as beneficiaries of the Vietnam Food Bank Network. Other products such as tea leaves, coffee grounds, and organic waste are transferred to the Vietnam Food Bank's community food gardens (Nong Lam Food Bank Garden, Green Community) for recycling into animal feed, compost, vegetable and tree cultivation, etc. Usable products are then donated to shelters, charity homes, and partner organizations, creating a closed loop with the goal and mission of minimizing food waste in the community.
The Stop Food Waste campaign is not only a practical action to reduce waste, but also a significant step forward in building a sustainable future for our communities.
Introducing a guide to recommended food donations in Vietnam.
In this campaign, the Food Law and Policy Clinic of Harvard Law School (FLPC) and other organizations are also collaborating on a key recommendations handbook that can help Vietnam minimize food loss and waste, protect the planet, and feed millions of people.
Mr. Nguyen Tuan Khoi, Chairman of the Vietnam Food Bank , shared: “Food waste is not just a problem for one country, but a global challenge. Vietnam is no exception. Every year, millions of tons of food are wasted while many people still need support. Therefore, this campaign aims not only to minimize waste but also to create concrete actions that contribute to building a more equitable society. Let's start with the simplest things, such as planning smart shopping, storing food properly, and sharing with those in need. Every small action has a great meaning. We call for the participation of everyone. Through this campaign, we hope to create a community with a high awareness of protecting food and the environment, contributing to a more sustainable future.”
Furthermore, today we are honored and proud to introduce the Food Donation Recommendations Handbook, an important document compiled by the Harvard Law and Policy Office in collaboration with the Global Food Banks (GFN) and the Vietnam Food Banks Network, to raise awareness and guide the community in donating food safely, practically, and sustainably. With this handbook, we hope to create a positive impact and contribute to reducing food waste, while ensuring timely and high-quality food support, especially in response to natural disasters and epidemics.
The Vietnam Food Bank is committed to continuously developing new initiatives to support communities and people in need, and this handbook is part of that mission. We hope that through this handbook, every individual and organization will be equipped with the necessary knowledge to work together to build a sustainable, sharing community where no one is left behind.”
Ms. Le Nhat Thuy, Chairwoman of CP Vietnam Charitable Foundation, shared at the event : “On the occasion of World Food Loss Awareness Day, we are here together to launch the “Stop Food Waste” campaign and introduce the Food Donation Recommendation Handbook. This is an important moment and a milestone in the journey that CP Vietnam and its partners have been working together to address the mission of food loss and waste. These are also important missions that CP Vietnam always focuses on in its sustainable development journey, not only in Vietnam but also globally.”
Food waste is a global problem with impacts not only on the environment but also profoundly affecting human lives. Every year, millions of tons of food are thrown away while millions of people still face hunger and malnutrition. Food is not simply a source of life, but also a source of hope, love, and sharing. Therefore, our "Stop Food Waste" campaign aims not only to raise awareness about this issue but also to provide practical solutions so that each of us can participate in the fight against food waste.
With the launch of the Food Donation Recommendation Handbook, we hope that people will gain a better understanding of the importance of food donation and how to do it effectively. This handbook is the result of close collaboration between experts, social organizations, and businesses to provide specific, easy-to-understand guidance that is relevant to the conditions in Vietnam. Each meal not only relieves hunger but also brings joy and hope to those who need it most.
For CP Vietnam:
Over the years, in addition to partnering with Foodbank Vietnam and other organizations and agencies to carry out campaigns against food waste, CP Vietnam has also campaigned and disseminated information on "combating food waste" to more than 30,000 employees. This includes applying food saving and waste avoidance practices in all production and business processes, as well as activities and events within the company, to help everyone better understand the importance of food and the serious consequences of waste leading to food shortages and scarcity.
