According to the Customs Department (Ministry of Finance), implementing the plan to strengthen the prevention of smuggling and illegal transportation of goods across the border, following the direction of the leaders of the Customs Department and the leaders of the Customs Branch of Region I, the Customs of Noi Bai International Airport has implemented professional measures: collecting risk management information for key passengers and key flights, exchanging with airlines to provide a list of passengers departing from countries with risks of prohibited goods such as: Hong Kong (China), Africa, South America, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands...., strengthening the work of checking, screening and checking people.

At around 3:20 p.m. on April 18, Anti-smuggling Control Team No. 1 - Anti-smuggling Investigation Department - Customs Department; Police Department for Investigation of Crimes on Corruption, Economy, Smuggling, and Environment (Team 6) - Hanoi City Police coordinated to control risks and discovered that male passenger Huang Chao-Tsun (Taiwan-China) was hiding 1 kg of rectangular gold metal on his person when entering the country.

Previously, on April 10, female passenger Lou Jiaqi (China) was arrested for transporting two pieces of metal suspected to be gold, covered with silver to deceive authorities.

On April 10, Nam Dinh Police coordinated with Customs to arrest 5 subjects, confiscating 1,500 synthetic drug pills, 300 grams of crystal meth, 3 guns, 20 bullets and 1 grenade.

On April 8, Doan Vu Anh Hoang (Binh Duong) was arrested while transporting 15.8 kg of synthetic drugs disguised in bags of candy and cosmetic bottles.

Previously, Steering Committee 389 said: In the first quarter of 2025, although the world and regional situation had many fluctuations, affecting domestic market prices, Vietnam's economy still recovered positively. The flow of goods and passengers through border gates increased, creating favorable conditions for legal trade activities, but also leading to an increase in smuggling and trade fraud activities.

Next, on the border routes and border gates nationwide, smuggling activities are complicated. The Vietnam - China route is notable for items such as drugs, firecrackers, alcohol, medicinal herbs and poultry breeds. The Vietnam - Laos route has seen smuggling of gold, firecrackers and cigarettes. The Vietnam - Cambodia route has seen tax evasion, illegal transportation of fertilizers, livestock, cosmetics, etc. The sea route and seaports have seen smuggling of electronics, coal, gasoline, poultry, etc. The international air and postal routes, in particular, are transit points for high-value items, drugs and gold.

In the first quarter of 2025, the authorities arrested 30,651 violations, including 6,754 cases of trading and transporting prohibited goods; 22,774 cases of trade fraud and tax fraud; 1,113 cases of counterfeit goods and intellectual property infringement. The total amount of money collected for the state budget amounted to more than VND 4,616 billion.
